You too Steve.
I'm undecided who'll be coming along this year. The Crown has really turned my planning upside down.
As I explained to Ted... The secrets to winning EBR are... Don't practice (That's #1!), use heavily oxidized pellets, and shoot them above the speed of sound. It also helps to tap the heads on a hard surface right before shooting them. ;) ;)
Thats a great pic! I don't know why I'm wearing 2 sets of sunglasses. I probably couldn't find the ones on my hat and ended up wearing my backups. lol

First, I'm playing Schults when it comes to Microgoove barrels, "I KNOW NOTHING", except what I've read, and that's worth what you pay for it. The internet is free, so you get the idea.

If this article is correct, http://www.leverguns.com/articles/fryxell/microgrove-barrels.htm the microgroove barrels are cut in traditional ways, but just more and shallower grooves. The Smooth Twist, from what I understand is a completely different process where no grooves are cut into the barrel, but rather the barrel is heated, formed into a pentagram type shape, and twisted. From the looks of it, no internal machining is required except maybe a little clean up.

Now, this is all worth what you paid for it, so more research is probably needed.

"Saltlake58"The pain of waiting.

OK Steve, lets see the review (yes, I know it takes time to do a good review, but we are EAGER!)

Many thanks,

then if I guess right, there will be a give-away of said Crown. That's what we are all really waiting for.
Trying to make it happen this month buddy. Nova .25 and Crown .25 are on deck.

Thanks for everything. The reviews are invaluable when making decisions.

This is a great community for information and general support in the very addictive hobby of air gunning. So much to learn, so much to do!

Saltlake58, the process of producing the Micro Groove and. the Smooth Twist are different. The point I was trying to make was that of the Idea of 'Lightly' caressing the pellet or bullet to impart spin.
The smooth Twist is a very interesting innovation and seems to be extremely accurate. EBR is top heavy with FX products and none of those boys would use anything less than the best.
So my take is that 'Lightly' imparting spin to a projectile may well prove to be the way of the future.

I'm not so sure that the smooth twist is a light touch on the pellet. The pictures of skirts I've seen of pellets after going through a smooth twist barrel show quite a bit of deformation. The skirt isn't round any more, but more of a pentagram if I remember correctly. Because they are soft lead, and conform easily to the barrel, the system works. To me, it seems that's pretty heavy handed, but it works. Now, as always, I could be wrong. I think the point is that it works, and wherever they got the idea, I'm glad they did.

If that's not right, help me understand!

Twist X is pressed all along the outside of the barrel in a concentric spiral pattern leaving grooves on the outer surface of the barrel. The process actually deforms the round bore into a spiral polygonal shape internally which act as the rifling. It is the same process as the smooth twist but applied to the entire barrel length at the same time! Ain't rocket science .... just cleverly applied hydraulics! ;)

True that the "rifling" is applied to the Smooth twist X from the outside, but the rifling itself is very different from the original Smoothtwist. In this picture you can see the deep grooves pressed into the X-liner, whereas the Smoothtwist is pressed and twisted but does not have the well defined grooves/rifling.
