Weihrauch Modell 97 Kurze Luftgewehr......precision accuracy.

Say Rooster, what does "Kurze Luftgewehr" mean?

Say Rooster, what does "Kurze Luftgewehr" mean?

I believe it translates into "short air rifle"

Wayne is correct! The German word for short is kurz. That is actually where the K in the designation HW97comes from. It's a carbine, or short " kurz " rifle. And luftgewehr is air rifle.

The beauty of Google ! Just spell it, ask for a English translation, and out comes your answer !

Rooster..that is flat out amazing! From the looks of your scope setting you appear to be set between 9 and 10X. AMAZING !! NO !! Better than amazing!!

Thanks Wayne. I'm a bit surprised with it myself sometimes. The rifle just flat shoots. I have learned that if it is not shooting with this type of consistent accuracy, it's NOT the rifle. It's either me or it doesn't like the pellets I'm feeding it. And yes I do keep my scope set at 10x magnification most of the time. Unless, I am shooting at a small target at longer range. Then I will turn it to 12x or so......thats about it.

What's the firing behavior with this rifle? It must be fairly pleasant at 14.5 FPE ?

Higher magnification really helps with accuracy precision. I guess 10X works pretty well at 30 yes?

FYI....I did some chronograph testing with the 5.54mm head FTT pellets you sent me for testing in my Sig. They fit very snug. Noticeably tighter than the 5.53mm FTT. I fired 5 shots for an average of 840 fps. Right at factory specification of 23 FPE. I actually weighed them at 14.7 gr. I may do some accuracy testing either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The firing cycle is really sweet. It has a very snappy, abrupt "thud" to it. But, a smoothness that doesn't disturb your sight picture or follow through...this is key to the accuracy. I don't know how much sense that makes. Kinda hard to describe it. It's best felt. And as far as the FPE being at around 14.5....that is plenty. I used to think other wise, until I learned better. What you want is accuracy, accuracy, accuracy.....all day long.

As far as the magnification, I pretty much use 10x all the time. I don't know why.....I just do. It kinda works for me, but everyone is different. I will at times use 12-14x for really small targets at further ranges. This all just my preference......nothing more.
