Tuning Weihrauch HW97K Vortek 12 fpe installation

I installed the Vortek 12 fpe kit today and did not put in the supplied power washers/preload washers and the first shot with 7.9 cpl’s (cardboard box) was 693 and the shots increased in speed to 753 fps by shot number 20 as it settled in. I would say the preload washers are absolutely necessary for 12 fpe. I will post the chrony results after I add the washers.

With 2 washers it wouldn’t cock so I’m running 1 washer. 50 shots on the spring so far. Crosman premier lite 7.9 grain 15 shot average 815 fps, 14 es, 4 sd, 11.65 fpe. On the bright side, after taking the gun apart a couple times it’s really easy to take down now and with the 12 foot pound spring no compressor is necessary. Definitely easier to cock.

Edit: My trigger was set too light for for it to cock. I must have inadvertently loosened it during the install process. Anyway it doesn’t matter because I have the velocity I want with one washer so it’s all good.

19 shot string chrony after 100 shot break in. I thought I shot 20 lol. These were not its favorite pellet before the Vortek but I have a bunch of them. It liked h&n ftt and jsb rs best at close range but I ran out before I could test at 25yd and beyond.

Finally got the Hw97 out to the range for 25 yard testing. The crosman premiers did ok and the h&n ftt did better and had the same point of impact. The jsb exact 8.4 shot the best groups but the point of impact was quite a bit lower. Pics in order are 10 shots h&n ftt, 5 shot jsb exact, and 5 shot crosman premier.

More testing needs done and I need more practice. I had a stiff head wind and I wasn’t cleaning my barrel in between pellet types. Has anyone experienced pellet point of impact that far off with jsb pellets of the same weight? Since the vortek install I have not chrony’d anything but the crosman premiers 7.9. My HW97k in factory condition shot the jsb pellets low at 10 yard but they were the most consistent on the chrony.

I have that kit in my HW97 4.5mm. The FTTs are good. Mine likes the 10.9gr barracuda match best. It’s stupid good. I have a fixed 10x scope and the barracuda match can land on the middle of a 20mm spinner that I can barely see from 30 meters 91%of the time, the other 9% I misjudged the trigger break between heartbeats or forgot to glance at the bubble level. From past experience, I don’t think I would shoot 7.9gr more than 10 yards. But 7.9gr can hit flies at 10yds

I installed the PG3 kit in my TX200. Shooting was rough at best. Tried to contact Tom but I would not get any replies. After several tries to contact him without luck, I finally gave up on the kit and ordered Tony Leach's 21 mm sleeve kit. What a difference! You can hardly feel any recoil. Velocity so far is 770 fps with JSB 8.44's without any of the supplied spacers installed. Tony is a great guy and spends the time to get the kit working the way it's supposed to. He replies promptly to any query I have. I would definitely order from him again.

I recently installed a 12 lbs PG4 kit in my HW97. The spring noise is gone, but the firing cycle seems harder now. The trigger pull feels harder too. Accuracy seems consistent at ranges out to 60 yards. I checked the breech seal and the original piston seal, but neither showed any damage. I reassembled it this time with JM heavy tar on the spring. If the firing cycle doesn't improve I'll be going back to the factory spring.
