The HW55S was the plain Jane of the 55 line. Having to be compared with 2 of the most elegant air rifles ever produced in the HW 55MM and 55T just isn't fair. Being a Beech stock next to grade walnut puts it at a loss for fancy looks. But that's where it ends! What the HW55S lacks in pretty, it makes up for in fun! Being a "Sport" Match rifle is like having the best of both worlds.
The HW55S is lighter and easier to shoulder than its brothers. More of a field use style, the 55S platform provides the shooter with pinpoint precise shooting without all the bulk. It's like an R8 with a better recoil pad, barrel and trigger. And the curve of that recoil pad totally cradles your shoulder to make everything super stable. A superbly designed air rifle!
However, it was short lived. It disappeared right around the time the R8 and HW50 appeared in the Beeman line up. Someone sadly decided that the HW55 line was not worth continuing. Ironic that in the early days of the Beeman catalogs the first thing you saw was the venerable 55 line. Later versions of the catalog relegated it to the back area of the issue. The race for pellet speed and production costs were a couple of contributing factors to the end of production.
But all that aside, I finally found a 55S that I am proud to add to my herd. I couldn't resist but to remove the match rear sites and top it with a proper scope. I've decided on a Burris 8x mini...for now. Lol I figure if it's a Sport rifle, then scope it up!!!
First group said it all. What a laser accurate rifle. And a hair trigger to boot. I had to hold my breath because I was afraid to breath on it fearing firing !!! Lol. PCP like results from a spring rifle never fail to make me smile. This 55SM delivers in spades!
