Bill, not sure what your neck issues are but if you're having trouble seeing through the aperture sight with your shoulder centered in the curve of the recoil pad, try putting the pointed toe of the pad in your shoulder and see if that helps. If it does, an adjustable recoil pad may be your solution. I installed one on a late model HW55 and with the pad adjusted all the way down it improves the handling immensely (for me). The factory pad is put away for safe keeping.

BTW, you did a beautiful job on the stock and should be proud of how the entire gun came out. Enjoy it!

The gun came out GREAT, a real beauty!

I too find the "sit" of the 55M stock a bit low, though not uncomfortable. That being said, the 55 I shoot the most is my CM...with an OEM adjustable buttplate! So I heartily endorse the idea of adding such, works great and is reversible if need be, i.e., no wood alterations required.

I've also wondered if a "poor man's" solution might be a simple flat fixed buttplate, which would allow holding a bit higher on your shoulder comfortably.
