Weihrauch HW55M arrived

That's a pretty one. My 55M is in nice condition but a newer model and the walnut is nothing special to my eye. I got it in auction. The seller noted that the blue was a little worn but when I got it there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I don't know what he was thinking. The price I paid wasn't bad. Maybe because of his comments? This was 2 years before all the China Virus welfare money was printed. Before the airgun auction stampede. Surely the prices will settle after all the "New Nonsense" is in the past.

That one has suffered a few indignities to challenge a wood restorer, LOL, but agreed - a good deal for the money.

That seller also sells on Ebay. They frequently have some airguns for sale. Check out their Ebay store and check out all the gun stuff and wartime memorabilia they have ! 90% of the stuff on sale has bidding on it.

Back in 2017 (when this auction occurred) everything was cheaper. Love to see what that gun would bring today.

The 55M is done. Took me a month to get the stock done (steaming out dents, sanding, staining, hand rubbed Napiers London Oil, etc.). Sent the metal to Precision Bluing near Raleigh, NC. Removed the pitting and put an excellent blue job on the gun. I used a leather piston seal but a synthetic breech seal (very tricky to get it installed just right). Cleaned and lubed the trigger - geez it's a great trigger. Left the iron sights off for now. Maybe a scope due to my poor eyesight.

Did you try using the aperture sight? I can't use irons well any more but aperture are different. Peering through the aperture increases your depth of field.
Guns aren't really very good investments as investments go. It's more of a romantic thing. I doubt you could sell your rifle for what you have in it now. Maybe..... Having said that I would certainly rather have this refinished gun than the one you started off with. You did no harm. I hope you enjoy it for a long time.

@KWK - Have to agree with you. I really enjoy the restoration journey. I know that if I sold it I probably would not get what I have wrapped up in it. Just like some of the cars I've restored. It's strictly a joy of ownership thing...emotional, as you have said.
I have shot with aperture sights for ore than 60 years and, with this gun anyway, I have trouble getting my eye down on the sights. Physically limited with my neck, etc. The many travails of old age, I guess. LOL. Will give it another shot (no pun intended).

Outstanding results that show a lot of TLC and patience. That stock really turned out very nice.

Thanks much for your kind words. Patience is the watchword when it comes to re-finishing a vintage stock. I sent the barrel, etc to a profession bluing company. They did a very nice job for me but they are so busy that it takes months to get everything back. Again, patience.
