Webley Stingray Deluxe Carbine .22

I picked up a lightly used Webley. Beautiful

gun. Cocking had a dry grating sound so I opened it up to find the spring guide broken and a fair amount of chamber oil inside. I made a snug fitting Delrin guide and lubed sparingly with moly paste. A little dab where the top rear of the piston rubs hardest when cocking. Polished the rear of the piston and the sear contact areas. A little moly on the sear.

The gun cocks and fires very nicely. You must use a deliberate application when triggering the single stage unit and when you do it performs very well. It’s not a two stage trigger so I’m not going to expect a super light crisp performance that a two stage can safely yield.

The walnut stock needs a little help so I’m going to apply a coat or two of boiled flax seed oil to bring up the grain a bit.

An odd thing I noticed. The stock screws are a mixture of phillips head and Pozidrive. 3 Pozidrive and the rear trigger guard screw is phillips.

Thinking about mounting a Hawke Airmax 2-7 I have handy.

OveralI, I am pleased to add this classic to my herd. I believe I am going to really appreciate it’s handy, snappy attitude.

Thank you. No, Wayne, no chrony testing. The point was solely to see what the internal issues were. And then to assemble the gun and see how it shoots as is. Next I want to see how it handles off hand and If I even like it. I don't want it for bench rest or any form of target shooting. I have other guns that would be more suitable for that. Stingrays have a great reputation for what they are so I want to see if it does just that for me. I'm not asking it to be another R9, R8, R7, Supersport, BSA Challenger, Airsporter, FWB 124. I already have those and then some. I just wanted to know what the elusive (these days) Stingray is like. I've read they are about 14 fpe in .22.

I don't have a place to shoot at home. My wife and I made sacrifices to raise our 3 sons in this stable family small town for it's highly regarded school. (Stable families = stable school environment) So far it has really payed off for us. Our youngest son graduates in 2022. I sacrificed a place to shoot and hunt for them but I did not sacrifice my small machine shop. Have you seen my "1912 BSA truck gun" posts on Warriors? Most of my shooting is done at our family farm about 50 minutes away. I don't get there often enough! BTW When I do get to the farm the boys want me to cook over the campfire and do this instead.
