Pardon me while I grimace here, or something even more demonstrative. With all due respect without singling anyone out, I get so weary of all the cynics here and elsewhere that seem to imply that ANYONE that is compensated for their reviews is automatically suspect or should probably be dismissed outright. It’s an insult to both my intelligence and YOURS and of the hard, careful work required for those reviewers/ videographers to do these well and in way that is both entertaining and informative and reasonably subjective. Are there a few sponsored reviewers out there where their sponsored/compensated reviews virtaully never find fault with their product lines? Sure! But over time those few with only a modicum of simple scrutiny by the viewers are exposed. Most of us have enough sense to look to other reviews and user’s realtime experience to make our own conclusions.
As just one of many examples seen, I was so pleased to see a new video by Ted and merely commented on how much I liked it as well as the new MTC scope he was using. It looks like it has a lot of potential for my needs. Ted didn’t even review the scope. Rather, he just pointed out some of feature set emphasizing the gear reduction turret which really appeals to me.
The first follow up poster felt the need to REMIND me and all of YOU once again that Ted is compensated and to beware. Oh, P-L-E-A-S-E… Spare me!! How many times MUST WE ALL have to ENDURE this “DERSION seemingly on autopilot from too many?” And, it begs the question, where does it come from? Jealousy? Maybe. Then again, I wonder if it’s genesis is the pervasive mentality by some that ALL corporations are bad and Capitalism is inherently evil? Fortunately, that mentality and the policies put forward might have been put in abeyance somewhat from this last election. But seriously, are we all such mind-numbed robots incapable of critical thinking or lacking the intellect to prosecute further inquiry on our own? If you have a problem with Ted or any other reviewer, why not take it up with them personally rather then disparaging their name all over the Net and their efforts directly or indirectly implying there is something nefarious going on just because one gets compensated for their efforts.
Look, I don’t know Ted or any other of the top of the tier reviewers out there, but I suspect he is hardly getting rich at whatever compensation he might receive, nor to do I care. God bless him for whatever he receives. I truly believe he does these because of the sheer joy this sport has afforded him, the measure of success he has had and the fact that as a teacher he enjoys sharing his knowledge with other enthusiasts. In short, it’s mostly fun for him and it shows! And when it stops being fun or has other demands on his time these videos all but cease as evidenced by his own words and actions back when he first reviewed the Impact. For you blind cynics out there, if he was such a corporate ***** and so damn well compensated, then why haven’t we seen a plethora of videos from him in recent times?
And so many of you seem to forget how much his contributions have brought us. Countless really, but the revision of that first Bobcat’s stock done by FX at his and other’s behest completely redesigned ergonomically was quite extraordinary. It’s a fabulous platform now!
So, to all you naysayers cut us some slack. We’re not all stupid nor do we necessarily have to labor under your world view.
