We need to save California!

Farmers are trying everything they can to protect their crop and their walnuts from this infestation. However, Genasci says it's becoming increasingly more difficult because they have to use fewer rodenticides.

"Rodenticides have been really in the crosshairs. They've removed a number of items we use to kill rodents, or restricted their use," Genasci said. "If it's not one thing, it's another, it seems like."

He's hoping that soon, farmers and growers can catch a break.

Airguns can shoot lead in California, but no night vision of any kind. That shouldn't be a problem for ground squirrels though.

Some of those hunting laws are weird. When problem animals abound, take the gloves off. I’m not much for California almonds, but the English walnuts grown there are 🔥 !!! Is it difficult for airgunners to get permissions to some of these places for pesting? Can you appeal the the department of fish and game for some sort of waiver for pest work?

I have no idea how to go about this. But being unemployed right now, I would love to spend my days out there helping to reduce the ground squirrel numbers!
@kwaping Search the threads There’s some decent info out there. I just found this

Where did you read this, about the night vision? For pest control, or animals "depredating one's crops", I don't see mention of restrictions. Granted, ground squirrels are only out during the day, but say, for rats?

Here's one reference. This makes it seem like it's only IR scopes though.

Well, I'll be danged... yes, there is such a law

The text reads "designed for or adaptable to use on a firearm", which reminds me of the moderator language. My guess is that a lot of IR scopes would fit that description. It also exempts IR scopes "when used solely for scientific research or educational purposes", so could one claim they are doing research to educate others on how to get rid of rats in the garden? Does posting a youtube video count as education? Are we at the Wonderland point where one's otherwise incriminating video post can be used as a defense?

So, I'm not a lawyer..but the 468 law appears to have a tiny "gap"..

"In short, a sniperscope, or “sniper scope,” is a telescope, usually a monocular telescope, that is capable of being affixed to a firearm, usually a rifle, and which uses optical magnification via curved lenses to make distant objects appear larger in the sniper’s view port (ocular lens)."

All one would need is a 0 power night vision optic..LOL

The law is obviously poorly written, but maybe my English interpretation isn't what it used to be.

Using pejorative words like "sniper scope" is stupid/ignorant..similar to the "assault rifle" moniker. JMNSHO.

But what can you say..it's Kalifornica.
