Not what you think. My new Yong Heng compressor should be arriving in a few hours. All things being equal, and if the Amazon driver can make it
up our driveway. Still have a lot of ice out there. The Road grader just passed by and you cannot tell it was there. Not good.

Enough prattle. My question. What videos can you recommend for set up? I have noticed that almost everyone who gets one, recommends watching a video because
the instructions are somewhat lacking in detail.
If you were setting one up all over again, what would you do different? I have a small mud room just inside the back door, which is adjacent to the shooting bench. It has
a nice cement floor, plenty of artificial light, lots of power outlets, and is far enough away the remainder of the house as not to bother.
What else.
Don't forget the video recommends, I need something to do while I wait.

Make sure you have a good source of cool water, possibly look at putting a radiator of some sort to help cool things quicker.

First thing I did on mine was to replace all the hoses with better quality as well as replacing the water pump with something a little better.

Do not have my order form handy. I got the one with auto shut-off, if that helps?
Is the water pump electric I assume? So, an aquarium pump with more gpms?
What about a 12v DC from the live well or bilge pump and an external 12v battery? Just putting ideas out there.
Can the unit handle the increased flow rate?

Water jacket around the head is tiny, no need for more water flow, not gonna change anything. That doesn’t mean a better pump isn’t warranted but no need for increased flow. The pump is adequate, you just need to pay attention to it. Make sure its pumping.

Not much to set up. Check all screws and bolts for tightness. On mine the bolts for the face of the oil reservoir where rather loose. Snug them but don’t overdo it.

I also took the main cover off to check what was under there. Snug up the mounting bolts to frame. Carefully, cheap chinametal, don’t crack anything.

Do you have the right oil? FILL WITH QUALITY OIL! Seco lube is what I use.

There certainly are upgrades to do. The fan is a main one. I have an electric fan inbound today. Gonna make a whole new backing plate to mount it. I have some thoughts, I’ll make a thread if what I plan works out.

Pay attention to your water. After 20 minutes a 5 gallon bucket will get warm. Either ice, or some sort of cooling radiator set up would help. If your near a water source, I would seriously consider rigging to just run water right from faucet through compressor and down drain or into a bucket for the garden of something. I did read one guy was using the water in his clothes washing machine. Filled tanks on wash day.

Are you filling tanks or right to the gun?

I use a 5 gallon bucket with a computer radiator and fan kit on top. I want to say it was around $20 from Amazon and it has really helped the system stay cooler longer.

The pump is fine, there are just some of them that go out quickly. A simple aquarium pump will work just fine, I just like something quality to push the coolant around.

Like Heavy said above, check all the bolt and clamps to make sure things are tight. Do a few short runs before you try to fill anything with pressure. You want to make sure the seals are all good as well as the rings being set. Not sure if it helps honestly, but it will make you feel better to go slow the first 5 or so times running the unit. The first time I ran mine I ran it for like 3 min or so and shut off and let it cool, then 5, then more and so on and so on.

Don't get a false sense of security that auto shut off will do it's job! ALWAYS monitor your fill process & never try to fill to the 4500psi max. 4200psi fill is adequate & won't make your YH work too hard. Search for "biohazardman" posts on this forum for comprehensive YH care & you'll learn all you need to!

I like the idea of taking it slow. Short bursts so to speak.

To answer heavy's question, my intention is to fill my huntsman for target practice at home and then top off my tank after the shop fills it to
3200 for hunting. I am hoping that this will limit overuse of the compressor and make it last a little longer. ??

You're more than welcome, set-up inspired by Biohazardman, Gerry52's suggestion to check his archived recommendations is spot on. Unit fits perfect on the Rubbermaid 5-shelf, used 3/4inch plywood base for vibration dampening. Need to remote mount (Velcro) digital temperature display, can't see, otherwise. Use #357 batteries (2) over L44, they'll last longer in digital temp display. Royal Purple (Flash point 460 degrees F) is OK but SecoLube's higher flashpoint of 520, is preferred. Four filters, copper-colored is not "real" filter as no media, it's a coalescing filter that removes heavier oil/water molecules thru re-directing flow through chambers, releasing drier/cleaner air out top. Black (cotton-filled) came with Yong Heng, long gold ($60) M50, has three-media plastic insert, top blue is also cotton-filled, leftover from hand pumping days. WM

compressor takes about 1/3 of a quart — buying the gallon is the most economical but you could certainly get away with just a quart for awhile.

Just received $37 order from Filtertechs of a quart SecoLube 500. Since YH takes 10 ounces, good for 3 annual oil changes. Currently using Home Depot Husky brand (460-degree F Flashpoint) full synthetic air compressor oil but switching to SecoLube. Used Husky Blend air compressor oil for initial one hour break-in, switched to Husky Full Synthetic after that. Note twist-tie holding hoses to bucket handle, shoestring holding feet of rear fan to feet of compressor (fan "walks away" from vibration, without) and <$20 double-sided tape mounted vibration hour meter on compressor side. WM

ok. Thanks for the info. Just placed an order for the oil. Should be here in about a week. With the weather and the weekend.
Figured I would start it up with the purple and then change it out.

Few more tips: Place items for filling up high, make moisture work hard to get there! Water in bucket as close to level with compressor, as possible, your water pump will thank you. Make sure rear restrictor screen on water pump is wide open. My Florida garage set-up didn't start with ($125) copper-colored coalescing filter, added after black YH filter cotton got soaked each session, clean and dry since. Seems humid locations need extra protection, might not be required in cooler, drier places. Best of Luck, WM

Don’t rely on that cotton tampon to do much with water. 3000+psi air will push the water right through it.

I’m in NJ, humidity levels are low this time of year. I get a surprising amount of water out of my water separator. I use a Joe Brancato carrette filter/separator. He ran a sale on it awhile ago, was still around $200. It‘s a smaller version of what I see on the website now. Drain water every 5 minutes or so from both drains on the compressor and also the one on the filter.

I ordered an additional filter when I ordered the YH. Should be here today as well. It is a large metal cartridge filter with replacable media.
It is a 30mpa 4500 psi oil and water separator. Hopefully it will suffice. I will add another if needed.
