WC Hammer spring adjuster.... I thought I was nuts...

I spend way more time target shooting than anything else and I do it with .177’s way more than anything (although my .25s see a lot of lead).

Finally decided to try a Wildcat and have been fairly impressed with the overal product but since day one, chrony results have been confusing. I know how to read them, these were just odd. Have the feeling that I was going to/have to go to a HUMA reg right off. Had some time time today and decided before I even touch the reg, lets try some diff HST adjustments. Pulled the stock, made a reference mark on the brass head of the adjuster and sat it back in the stock for a small string. Took a few shots and then happened to watch the HS screw for the next couple of shots, With the ref mark in place, I can actually watch it move!!

Maybe I’ve missed this in other commentary. Shame on FX. Jam nuts or locking grub screws are NOT new, not even in the Airgun world.

Anyone have a reference to or the actual figures on the head size of the HST Adjust head? I want to look for a jam nut before I resort to thread locker. I dont need to make future adjustment any more difficult. Ohh and while I’m at it, I will be releiving a notch for an Allen wrench behind the HST head!

Rob, that thread makes me feel like I haven’t had too much to drink, yet... It not only explain the exact kind of nuts i’ve felt today but there is enough info in there for me to find a jam nut. THANK YOU!!

Crazy thing is.... my .25 WC has a jam nut!!!

The head of the adjuster is no more than 3 threads deep (really FX WHY???, did you save 3 cents of brass per gun this way??? ) so I think I’ll go with sourcing a jam nut rather than betting on any sort of thread lock.

Glem, tried teflon tape to 0 effect. If I can’t get a jam nut, I’ll get ceative

jking, That’s what I will do if I cant make something from HD on my local ‘real’ hardware store work.

Thanks all. Freaked a little at first but I know I can ‘fix’ this.

What wont go away is the simple fact that the consumer should never have to deal with this. It wasn’t even locktighted (as most say it should be) coming new from AOA. Not to mention that it was shooting 10.3 JSBs at 965fps. Sorry that’s a little much for any gun that was ‘tested before sending to the buyer’.

Still, the gun is a good piece and I’m not sorry I got it, just the usual disappointments (manufacturer and retailer).

If you didn't read all the way to the end of that thread I started about WC Hammer, my answer turned out to be just putting vibratite on it. It worked perfectly once I realized it had to be in the front of the nut too. I though just a little on the thread would hold it. And maybe I went with too little at first. But I removed the nut, cleaned the area and put vibratite on the about half the threads deep and only a C shape in the hole, not all the way around.
Let it dry for about 10-15 minutes and install the nut. It hasn't moved at all since except for adjustments maybe 5 or 6 times. It still says right where I put it. Sometimes simple is better.
