Water snake caught threatening baby bluebirds

Early this morning I looked our and saw a water snake climbing the pole of my bluebird house. He didn't make it.

My first several shots were from 25 yards away with him on the metal pole of the bird house. I could not see his head so I just shot him in the body until he dropped off the pole. Several solid hits. Then I walked out there and he was still alive but only moving the front third of his body. One to the head stopped that. If he had dropped into the lake I would have let the turtles take care of him but since he was in the yard I put him in a bag of trash and took him to the collection center. Grandkids are here now, don't need dead snakes in the yard. He was about 5 feet long.
