Watch out for hidden tariffs! (Huma-Air)

Hey there,

Just completed an order from Huma-air, and while
I’m still excited for the upgrades I have planned, I was disappointed that today I received an email from UPS saying I owed 50% the cost of the order for delivery. Huma charged me a large shipping fee already but did not mention anything about the fact that this wouldn’t be the only charge.

Typically shippers know this beforehand, and I have seen other retailers warn their customers about this. I was very disappointed Huma didn’t give me that respect.

How do you all feel about manufacturers ignoring/hiding/passing their fees to the customer? I would have felt much better about the process had they raised their prices 50% and not left me with surprise fees.

Huma has no idea what fees or tariffs etc of every country state county city will stick to its customers. Buying a product as a citizen of a foreign country, and then importing said product is not like shopping online at Target for the latest Marvel Blu-Ray. Most companies that ship internationally will have some fine print disclaimer you can find with a little digging that warns potential customers about this kind of thing. Ultimately the responsibility lies with you, the importer and consumer.

And as a side note, CBP is the one collecting the money, not Huma or UPS. Huma raising their prices would be just that, they dont have anything to do with he US govt demanding money from its citizens.

Took me about 8 seconds:

For International shipments outside the European Union:

  • Huma-Air must provide all packages with customs documents and for this the original invoice will be included with the package.
  • We ship on your behalf and Huma Air can therefore not be held liable for any legal issues with your governments customs services.
  • You as an importer are responsible for complying with your local legislation.
  • If a package is seized by your governments customs services, Huma-Air will not refund or resend it.
  • If a parcel is refused by your governments customs services and returned to us, we will refund the value of the parcel minus the shipping costs and possible return shipping costs.
  • For shipments outside the European Union, it might be possible your government will charge you with additional costs like import taxes or import rates

I have a set of seat covers coming for the Gator I recently picked up. I ordered them through Walmart but they are clearly coming from China. They landed in NY Monday and USPS is currently awaiting the package for final delivery. I used Paypal as the method of payment and so far the only charge I have seen is the original checkout cost. The only e-mail I have received are my original order confirmation and a shipment notification.
Tracking shows they passed through customs and are in transit.

We went to Walmart for our monthly bulk grocery shopping. We noticed some slight price increases but the biggest thing we noticed was some of the brand items we normally buy were missing and different brands replaced them. Almost like the prices didn't increase but items were replaced by items costing more.
Our average cost at the register was still within or typical range of between $220 and $270 depending on what we buy. This month we didn't need meats so the total came to $230.
We will also go to our local grocer to pick up what we buy there... we typically spend another $50 to $100 depending on what we need.
I filled the tank on the Titan from near empty for $56 at the Walmart affiliated Murphy's.
So far life is pretty much normal.

Manufacturers passing their cost to the customers…..well of course that is how it works…always has. I know I know….the evil corporations make so much money they should eat the costs right ? Simple devils advocate why should they and not you ?? Or better yet the people the manufacturers get whatever they need to make whatever they are making should absorb it? 💩 flows downhill unfortunately.

I received my order from Huma Air, two days later I get an email from UPS stating I owe $16.11 for customs. Should I pay it? I already have the goods.
I don't know why one would even question whether to pay a $16 bill when one's credibility, credit rating and perhaps business relationship is on the line.

What is the value to you to not have a ding on your credit record for an unpaid bill? What is the value to you of getting UPS deliveries in the future?

This is not something which UPS is doing to make money. They are stuck in the middle, in a constantly changing environment, running to catch up and keep in compliance with Customs Duties policies/law.

Does anyone know if the tariffs affect used Airgun sales from private individuals from overseas?
No idea, I have a small dovetail rail adapter coming from the UK, and a bipod from Croatia, so will soon see about small parts. I am hoping that small dollar value purchases are exempt as in the past.

All well and good unless it's a scam... lots of those going around these days. I would contact them personally before I gave anyone any money.
