Warning - Tuxing Gold filter partial failure

I’ve used this Tuxing Gold water / oil / filter for about 2 years, connected to my Yong Heng compressor. The clear plastic tube is filled half with the tan colored molecular sieve beads and the other half is filled with color changing desiccant beads. Normally I can get about 5 top offs on my 60 minute SCBA tank before I have to remove the beads and bake them to remove the colected moisture. A couple days ago I pulled the clear plastic tube for normal baking service and when I removed it this is what I found.

The half of the clear tube that had the molecular sieve beads in it had disintegrated and the beads were crumbled dust. Luckily the cotton filter in the end had prevented any of the dust from passing through into my tank. The gold plating, next to that area inside the aluminum tube has lost some of the gold plating so this filter is being tossed into the circular file container.

If any of you are using this filter with the tan colored molecular sieve beads you might want to keep an eye on the condition of the tube and those beads. I’ve baked these beads numerous times and have never seen any of them fail until this episode.

I’ve ordered a replacement filter and will no longer use the molecular sieve beads but will fill the tube with color changing desiccant beads from here on.

That is nasty for sure!

I run my Yong Hengs in 55 to 65% humidity and have 30 hours on each of them. I replaced the cartridge on the Gold filter only once as the desiccant looked kind of ugly like it was dissolving/breaking down. Other than that no problems.

I also run my little Yong Heng cotton filter before my Gold filter and it catches most of the moisture. I change the tiny filter out, every twenty minutes of use, and set it out to dry and use again later. So, I can safely use the Gold filter for a year in my case before it's time to change out the cartridge. I don't dry the molecular sieve beads just replace them.

Sounds like you are in a high humidity area and or don't have a cyclone water separator on board. You might be better off with one of these placed before your Gold filter.
