Want to get into PCP need advice.

Ok so I have been shooting break barrels for a few years now and would like to go to the next level. I mostly plink with the kids and do some squirrel hunting. So I am looking for something that would be good for out to 75 yards and able to take rabits and squirrels. I am looking for a PCP on a budget but not one that will disappoint either.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nate

For 75yd shooting/hunting a .22 is good, a .25 is better. For plinking with the kids a .177 is more than enough. I cannot recomend a rifle/scope combo as your budget is unknown. The best for your money though would be a Benjamin Discovery, hand pump(many to choose from) with UTG scope(there are a few but you would have to decide model) and UTG rings. Of course I could assume you have scopes and rings already but you might not, hence the suggestion.

The best solution to plinking/hunting would be to get this gun http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Crosman_1077_air_rifle/204 or one like it for playing with the kids, and a dedicated pcp in .22 or .25 for long range target shooting and squirrel hunting.

Very good price on that one, but CO2 is not as economical in the long run as air and the pressure fluctuates with temperature, which can affect accuracy. If you have more to spend, I think nothing beats a PCP; The one-time start-up cost of the air tank or pump is a big hit, but either one will service multiple guns and pay for itself over time, if you shoot fairly often. I own a Benjamin Marauder, (M-Rod), that is probably the best PCP value in the 500$ price range; they can be easily found in lightly used condition in the 350 to 400$ range. the biggest complaint being the gun is heavy. If a 22 is big enough for your needs, then the Benjamin Discovery (Disco), is hard to beat, for even less money than the Marauder, It is considerably lighter, but is a single-shot only model.(no clip or magazine feature). both of these guns are very popular, easy to work on, with replacement and hop-up parts easy/cheap to get.

Have a .22 Disco and .25 Marauder. Agree with everything that has been said here. If I did it all over, I would have saved for a couple more months and just bought the Marauder. I think, dollar for dollar, it may be the best thing around in PCPs. My MRod came ready to shoot out of box--producing a nice 16 shot curve. My Disco needs tuned. It shoots really hot for a few rounds and then drops off fast. The Disco also needed an after-market moderator. Because it is loud without it. With a TKO on the end it is really quiet. The MRod is pretty quiet out of box--the main noise being the "taaankk' of the hammer and valve.
One last point. Crosman has provided excellent service. I blew out my baffles and they sent me a new set at no charge.

Thanks for all the input I think I will go with the disco I can get the .22 disco for $380.00 delivered with the pump so it will be ready to shoot. I will move my UTG SWAT 4X16X44 w/ 60mm side wheel over to it.

Next question from experience what pellet weight rainge does the disco seem to like. I will order a few different pellets to see what works best.

Thanks again for all the help I will post a pick once I get it all set up.
