Lots of Federal land up in NM, Not sure where TorC NM is , I go up to Queens some time to shoot , But have to really hunt for a tree squirrel ,
a few rabbits, a few,
Just took a drive out to the meter crater here in Odessa to check out the new HIDS (lights) in the jeep, In a 15 mile drive counted over 75 rabbits,
and that was on the public paved roads,
We are on a high cycle on the rabbits ,

You might go to your nearest NM G&F office and ask them about the state trust areas open to hunting in your area. There is a very large one 50 miles east of Roswell, (south on 172 from 380) that is loaded with prairie dogs, jack and cotton tail rabbits, and other non protected game and species.
You'll need a hunting license (or trappers license, or state camping license), even if you're hunting non protected species. The hunting license give you permission to hunt on trust lands. Without it, you're subject to fines and confiscation.
And just for the record, I'm in Roswell, and I have three PCPs, tanks, and a Freedom8 compressor. So if you want to drive this far, let me know.

First of all, we do not see many space aliens here nowadays. The reason is simply that the locals found out they taste just like chicken!
As for the aliens from other places (I'm being very PC here!), I do not speak any language but English, and some would say I don't do that well. However, all said, you all are welcome to come visit Roswell. Over the 4th of July weekend (2, 3 and 4), the celebration is to die for. While I will not put you up, I will at least fill your tanks while you are here.

Truth or Consequences(TorC) is 65 miles north of Las Cruces on I25 and on the Rio Grande. We have thousands of acres of BLM ground here to hunt and shoot.

I kind of envy you guys in NM, Lots of open public open land up there.
Here in West Texas its all private land , I can go hunt Prairie dogs for 150 dollars a day or 1,200 a year , But it also includes all varmints rabbits , Pigs . No game animals that's a bunch more money, dove, Quail, deer,

I cant't even imagine paying to hunt with the thousands of acres at my back door. I was raised in Wyoming also with thousands of acres of public land. At 72 I still roam the prairie like when I was a kid. Each day I realize more what a wonderful journey thru life it has been.

In PA they almost pay you to hunt deer. i want to say the license is like $20-$30. Then you get new tags as you bag each deer.

It was like that in Wyoming in a couple of areas when I was a boy. Buy a license for $7.50 and get two more free. The population of deer was so large that there was no food left and they were starving. The thing that brought that about was that the cattlemen grazed away all the grass leaving the browse then moved on. The deer moved in and the population exploded until there was no Browse left also. Now there is better management on all fronts.
