Walther Reign barrel modification.

I just recently purchased a Walther Reign to use as a inexpensive hunting gun. Like others I did not like the look of the gun with the factory barrel and moderator so I decided to make a change.

I have read other posts about removing the factory moderator without much effort by simply twisting until the clip compressed. Well no such luck for this guy I worked my A$$ off but managed to get it off with the 1/2-20 threads and barrel intact.

I took some seamless aluminum pipe that was 15mm ID and 19mm OD and made a barrel shroud out of it. It is a friction fit over the existing barrel so serves no purpose but for looks and to stiffen an already stiff barrel. I then bought some more plastic tubing and made a friction fit frame transition piece where the new shroud meets the stock. I locked the aluminum shroud down with a 10-32 set screw on the underside just in front of the stock.

This turned out rock solid and I used the entire original barrel so re-crowning and velocity loss are not an issue. The rifle is a tack driver and I think it looks much better ( like a custom barrel ) and allows me to use the moderator of my choice.
