Vulcan problems

Okay so I bought a Vulcan from a friend and having a little trouble. The thing is accurate as hell at 6p yards but anything past that it looses it's accuracy. It's a .22 and it's was shooting at 930 fps and I thought that was a little hot for the 18.13 cause of the spiraling. I adjusted the reg to about 120 bar and now it's shooting around 880 and still spiraling. Not as bad but still is. I'm not sure what to really do cause when my buddy had it it was shooting great out to 100 yards and he changed nothing... Ernest Rowe tuned it and put in a smooth twist barrel when he had it... just need some thoughts on what to do with it.. my plan is to get it to shoot amazing again then sell it

Was he shooting at any other distances than 100yd? spiraling can be ok so long as it is consistent and you are only shooting at one distance. Maybe your buddy f''d up the gun and that's why he sold it? I'm being general here as I don't own one.

He would shoot on cam in slow mo at 120 and no spiral at all. He sold it to me cause he bought a .25 impact and just didn't shoot it. He got it back from Ernest the same time as his impact and just let it sit around for awhile. It's accurate at every yardage until about 75 yrds. The group's open up the further out you go... I'm wondering if the jsb pellets I have are a little different or something. Anything with in 75 is down. But also sometimes at a further distance such 90 yards I'll get great groups and other times they are better than 3in at like 85 90 yards

what if you manually feed it. will it get any better?
If not I would stick back the original CZ barrel

I would but the rifling is destroyed in that barrel

is the pellet probe not loose, look under the top cover maybe the screws came out of the coupling to the cocking rod. you can still check the barrel o ring shape/or if it is there. The o ring aligns the pellet probe.
sounds like it has been modded, not stock anymore so best is to send it back to the modder

Try pushing a pellet through the barrel with a cleaning rod. Inspect the groves on the skirt. If the skirt has inconsistent marks, this could cause spiraling at longer distance. Also, back it down to about 850.

Well the problem seemed to be the reg wasn't regulating lol. But wind wasn't opening up my groups like that... I think it was just not regulating the shots.. thanks for the help though guys

How did you determine it was the regulator? Did you fix it?

DeadRyeDill you were saying pellet spiralling. Are they still spiralling?

Try shooting without the shroud and compare groups with more then one kind of pellets.

I had some vulcan had turbulence issues with the shroud, being to tight, loose rear bushing, loosen center 1/2 20 bushing and all depend what type of shroud you have, I even enlarge the shroud bore hole so slightly and that made the difference.

i suggest testing shroud 1st before going further brain storming.

What’s your ES with one fill down to 150b ? if under 15fps your reg is working so no obvious reason to mess with the reg.

It would jump from 840 to 880 and everywhere in between. I put in the reg tester and it went past 170 bar lol so I don't think it was regulating... your actually the one that tuned this gun but I think my buddy may have adjusted something and doesn't remember. We adjusted to 120 bar and it shoot a very consistent 880

Well my overall problem with the spiraling isn't fixed yet. But figuring out the reg was way off help a lot. My groups and 75+ shrunk down.. But when I shoot in the air to watch the pellet it still has a spiral but not terrible

Sniperlabyo all work done to this gun was done by you. My buddy sent it to you to replace the barrel with a smooth twist and the other magic you do. I don't know if you rember the gun or not but if you do it would be sweet if you rembered what the reg was set at when you tuned it

I remember, the only one I installed a smooth twist on a Vulcan. Only tested that barrel at 50y only and was satisfied with the accuracy, I mean not rven really trying I can get 1/2” looking groups. 

I usually set Reg between 140-145, never at 170b the hammer spring isn’t strong enough to make it useful for a high power Vulcan.

I sent my .22 Vulcan to Ole Ernest and it's a tack driver, BUT, I kept the barrel that came with it. My .22 Bobcat with a smooth twist barrel I wasn't impressed with.

I'm not saying you set it that I did. Being dumb I adjusted and didn't even test it. But now that I've tested it I know it was off... and yes it's definitely getting awesome 50yrd groups... my Vulcan is a good shooter I was just wanting to be to have a accurate 100yrd air rifle as I'm sure everyone does lol. I can't really complain...
