Vulcan .25 or .22

I am on the wait list for the new Vulcan Tactic in .25 but am still on the fence on whether to get the more efficient .22 with better shot count (70-ish) at 32FPE, or get the .25 which has a much lower shot count of around 30 shots at approximately 43FPE.

While the .25 is appealing for more knockdown power, I am not thrilled on the shot count, and I am not taking shots at 100yds where larger, heavier pellets rule the day, and retain more energy...

I do do like the fact that the .22 will have a less loopy trajectory, but again, I am not taking shots at varmints at distances beyond 50 yards anyway.... That said, I already own quite a few .22's and only one .25 (BSA Scorpion)

What would you do?

Hey Amozom, you can forget the loopy trajectory debate, pellets shooting at the same FPE will have the same basic arc. Yes shot count of the .22 is impressive, and the trade off for power (FPE) is the cost of that. So just ask you're self.......are you feeling lucky? Huh? Are you? I went with the .25 because i have 2 other .22's and just felt the time is right for me.

amoxom What kind of varmints are you shooting. Will you need the knockdown power of the .25 cal. or can an accurate .22 cal. do the job with precision shot placement or head shots at the 50 yards or less you mentioned is typical. How many shots are you typically taking during a days hunt and how does that match the available from each rifles fill. Then where the cost of pellets between .22 and 25 is not extreme is that an factor for you to consider. Its hard for one pellet rifle to do it all, that is why I have on order an FX Verminator in .22 cal. for ratting and pesting with an adjustable power wheel and lower fpe output and over 100 shots per fill. Then I have on order an Wildcat in .25 cal. for better knockdown power for small game at longer ranges. In the long run I think if you go over your needs the answer will come to you. Good luck Bill
