Vortek PG3 disassembly question

I recently purchased a brand new PG3 HO kit from Vortek for my HW97k. (Edit: gun is .22)

Anyone know how to remove the spring from the trigger end of Vortek spring guide? The piston end is pretty obvious, but I can't get the spring out of the trigger end spring guide/s.

I emailed Vortek some time ago. I have not received a response.

There's a youtube video where a guy twists the spring slightly as he pulls it out of the guides. I think that opens it up (or maybe closes it down). Anyway, it's like a Chinese finger trap.

Yup ... pull & rotate. generally on the VT kits the fit to outer sleeve is greater than the inner guide ... so rotate to collapse coils and pull like hell !!!

Thanks guys. That did the trick.

In case someone finds this in the future....the trigger end guide is two pieces. The inner guide spins with the spring, inside the outer guide. The outer guide is captured between the spring and the inner guide. The spinning was what was giving me the trouble. I just needed to "pull like hell" while rotating, and it came apart. I wasn't comfortable grabbing the inner guide with pliers.

Thanks again for the help. I didn't want to break something before I even have the action apart to test fit the guides inside the piston.



There's two metal washers/spacers under the spring. Is it worth trying the gun with the spacers removed? How much will that actually detune the gun, and tame the recoil? I guess trying it is one way to find out.

Edit: gun is .22.
