I recently purchased a hw97k and right away popped a HO tune kit didnt even fire one pellet through the gun. I installed the kit perfectly gun shoots great but it's not shooting to what the spec says. again this is a PG3 Vortek HO tune kit. the gun shoots 14.3 gr at 695 fps I can can even pluck golf balls with a 3-9x32 scope at 90 yards. but I'm not getting the 720 fps the kit says in the spec. I was wondering am I supposed to leave the stock washers in the piston when I in stalled the kit? also I understand you can adjust the top hat for maximum velocity but I dont understand which slot and it's like impossible to turn. also does removing the brass washers from the pg3 kit do anything? spring in the kit is broken in and no one responds when I try to contact vortek. any input would help thanks

I have that set up and doesn't make 720fps with 14.3gr Crosmans. Mine can't even hit golf balls at 90 yards. I would just leave it like that since its shooting that crazy accurate.

It's 20 FPS....... Just let it go man. Not worth chasing it.
Too loose pellet fit can cause slight velocity loss. Weihrauch .22s are known to be on the big side.
Piston seal being too tight can also rob FPS.
And elevation has a huge effect on velocity. Higher elevation, less power.
All that said, why worry about the 20fps? What's it gonna gain you?

You can release the tophat from the spring using a screwdriver. There's a gap between the end of the spring and the tophat. Apply gentle pressure in that gap using a small screwdriver. The spring should release slightly and then you can rotate the tophat. It's pretty obvious once you see how it works.
There are two positions. On my HW95 with a Vortek PG3, I chrony'd both and found little difference. I set the tophat back to the stock position. You may have better luck.

ya I was just hoping it would shoot around 730 fps with the tune kit and the vacuum seal i got that they said could increase fps. it shoots between 685 and 695 just doesnt seem right. that's why I was wondering if maybe i change the slot on the top hat it could increase the velocity i just dont know which slot and things a bitch to take apart. shoots great just was hoping for a bit more fpe. But it's possible it's just the crossman premier pellets.

Mine is stock, and shoots 5.53 and 5.54 head size FTT's at around 695ish, and 5.55 at around 705ish. I'm at around 415' above sea level.
I haven't found the magic pellet for my gun yet (out of the H&N's and JSB's I've tried). Barracuda match 5.52 seem to have some promise. JSB heavies too....this is at 30-50. I haven't gone beyond 50 with it. I really can't get a group I'm satisfied with at 20 and 30. I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong, so I can figure out what pellets are superior in mine.

ya I mean clean barrel good scope and technique help alot I'm no pro shot but I have a very good one. sensitivity of the trigger helps as well not to light some pulls good. also squeezing the trigger with ur index finger helps stabilize the shot and not just.pulling it. also I shoot mine off a bi pod

Weihrauch .22s have always been inaccurate for me. The bores are too oversized. The fact that @my87csx481 gets higher velocity with bigger diameter pellets hints at that here.
If you ever have the gun apart, push a pellet through the bore with a rod. I bet you will find a touch of resistance through the breech, then the pellet will basically free fall to the choke, which will be extremely tight.
All I'm saying, it's probably not you. Don't blame yourself till you know the gun is doing it's part. A stock HW97K especially in .22 shouldnt be very hold sensitive.

ya weird it's like super tight then just falls through scores the pellet pretty good tho.

I’m on the high power setting and JSB 14.35 average 690. FTT 5.54 are at 700. Vortek specs are using like a 10g pellet on .22’s. If you’re hitting golf balls at 90 I wouldn’t change a thing

When I am finally able to take it apart, what is the ideal feel when pushing a pellet through the barrel? I assume the touch of resistance in the breech is good, and the free fall is bad. So what about through the middle of the length, very slight drag is ideal? And what about through the choke?

In my opinion a perfect barrel would be as follows:
Just slightly snug from the breech, with even resistance all the way through until the choke, which would be slightly snugger until it pops put the crown.
Take a brand new Lothar Walther or other quality blank and they feel like this. The problem arises when Weihrauch and others cram the barrel into the breech with a very tight press fit, which constricts the bore. Another issue is when thicker barrels are turned down to .500" (1/2") to be threaded to the standard 1/2-20 moderator thread. Usually this makes the choke relax and accuracy goes to crap quick if it ends up "bellmouthed". I found this on a new HW100, and had it happen to myself when I was threading a barrel blank myself. The fix was to turn the barrel down to .500", THEN choke it, and THEN thread it. Fixed.
Uneven loose then tight spots aren't ideal but usually alright. Most folks agree that as long as the muzzle is tighter than the rest it will be good. I find it to be somewhat true, unless it's so loose you get blowby or so tight that it scrapes lead off the pellet.
The thing is, in most cases, there ain't much you can do about it anyhow. So don't get too worked up over it. And don't bother if yours shoots well enough for you. That's all that matters.

I meanwhen I test the pellet it was a crossman hollow point and it was extreamly tight for a good portion of the barrel like very tight and i had to push the pellet so hard i.couldnt realy tell if it had any free fall. all i know is the rifiling works and scored the pellet just like a real bullet. also mine hits golf balls at 90 yards no lie.

I since rotated the top hat to the maximum velocity slot and am getting 695 -700 15.6 FPE and 21 joules which is pretty good with 14.3gr which I'm pretty sure is to spec. also polished internals and bore with 600 800 and 1200 grit sand paper. gun shoots incredible I would take apart the trigger pack and polish it but it's a brand new gun and to lazy any ways.
