VK Slugs on my FX Impact X .22

Hello Guys

I have recently received some VK Slugs in 22,5, 24 and 26 grains. The 22.5 and 26 grains shoot so well (like under MOA at 100 meters) but the 24 grain do no shoot well at all.

I have a FX Impact X .22 with 700mm slug barrel .

The velocities that I'm shooting are:

for the 22.5 - 990 ft/s

for the 24gr - 960 ft/s

for the 26gr - 940 ft/s

This velocities are good, bad, too high, too low ?

I am really struggling with the 24gr Slugs. I don't know why it doesn't shoot well like the others.

Hell, the group with 24 gr is about the size of my best group i got at 50 yards with my .22 slug liner. So you should be very excited with the other 2. I’d definitely stick with whichever gives better results at say 100m then you’ll know you have a long range hunting gun. The 26 look like they might be the winner!

Yes, I think thaat the 26 will be the winner .

I would love to get those results. I have got a few good groups with the VM 24gr and a few with the NSA 27gr but I can not get them to stay, maybe 3 good groups of 5 then back to 1" just like your pic of the 24gr. Looks like I need to get some 22.5 and 26gr VN`s. I have the exact same combo you do except mine is 600mm. If I could get results like that out of 26gr you would hear me holler from here😁. So did you start with 600 1st and then go with the 700 because you could not get good results with the 600 or did you go 700mm from the get go. I am at least 800 slugs into this testing and frustrated! NSA 23 .217 & .218, VN 24gr, VN 30gr, and NSA 27gr .218. I can almost shoot hole for hole with the slug liner and JSB redesigned monsters all at 50 yds. Sorry didnt want to take over your post but figured you might have some good advice.

I have started with the 700mm since the beginning. I do have a 600mm barrel but this I use only to shoot 18.1gr JSBs @ 30 ft/s.

What velocitties aare you getting from the 600mm barrel ? Are you using slug liner or pellet liner?

Last week I add some weight to my hammer and now I'm getting better results on 22.5 and 26gr VK slugs. I'll make some tests today with the 24s and post the results.

My velocities now are:

JSB Monster Redesigned 25.39gr @ 980ft/s

VK 22.5 gr @ 1005ft/s

VK 26 gr @ 960ft/s

VK 24 gr @ 980ft/s

later today I'll post some groups at 50 and 100 meters.

I am using a slug liner and have shot on all bar levels, all power levels, all adjustments on hammer anti bounce adjustments. The pellet liner is a tack driver and the slug liner is a tack driver with monsters and can do fairly well with some slugs at certain velocities but because I bought this gun to shoot slugs only and already have a lights out pellet gun that I love to death so I will sell this Impact X and get a MK2 in 700mm and order the 700mm slug liner. Doesn’t look like people have to be so perfect to shoot slugs with it. If I am right it is 1:15 twist rate also which may be a big part of the issue.

Maybe.

Mine is not a MKII. It just have minor mods (hammer weight, elongated TPs) and i have NO extra plenum tube. My slug liner if I measure it right is 1:16 (700mm).

I think that the MK2 is better (already order one) but the impact X is plenty capable to shoot slugs very very well as you can see. The MK2 will just do it easier I think.

Ya that probably wasnt to clear. My 600mm liner is 16:1 twist rate and some are getting good results but only if everything is tuned perfect. It seems as if the 15:1 twist rate and extra 4" that the 700mm offers is more user friendly. Just like the pic rflops3 showed above, all those groups are unreal at 100 meters and all on the same setting unless I missed something. I cant do that at 50 yds. consistently yet. I have shot groups like that a few times but the next group might be 1" or more then 3/4". I have done lots of tests with the chrony and my spreads are extremely good so this is where I am at, I think the slugs do better if shot faster but if I turn it up to much it gets worse. I just think there is to much unused air when the slug reaches the end of the barrel and the turbulence upsets the slug. If I turn the power down I dont think the slugs spin fast enough. So what I should have said was settings dont have to be so perfect, not people when using a 700mm vs 600mm. I still think I can hit a good combo with the 600mm but these slugs are not cheap so I am looking at all options. Using less air with the 700mm to get the same fps as I can get with the 600mm seems like a huge advantage.

Yes, 700mm is the ticket!

Though my Crown w/600mm barrel did extremely well.....no complaints with 24gr VK slugs.

Ya I watch all your videos along with everyone elses, I have done everything Matt Dubber has said in his videos and nothing has worked for me. I look up to all you guys who have done so well. I would love to send my slug liner to anyone who would test it and hope they couldnt do well with it either so I could fill better about my skills, lol.
