Vixen good for pest dispatch?

I use an Impact compact .22 set to around 25 fpe to eliminate pigeons in a big farm. Deadly accurate and with a Huggett magna on it I'd swear the action is louder than the muzzle.

Now every time I drop a pigeon, every other one near or far flies out of warehouse and won't come back for a long while.

Good excuse to buy something new so I'm thinking of Daystate Redwolf in .177 or .22, but was told that AGT Vixen has quieter action and report (and is half the price).

Anyone who has shot both and can confirm?

No need to buy another gun. Your gun isn't scaring the pigeons, it's the pellet hitting one of them. Your gun can be completey silent but once you hit one of the pigeons, the others will fly away.

Birds get smart fast, they see a comrade drop they know trouble is afoot.

Yep, I'd try a smaller 177 or larger 25 at lower speeds. But likely it's just a case of the jig is up.

My .25 @ 700fps is easily 10x quieter on impact shooting greys. So if the projectile impact on target is loud, you may want to try something else. .25 being quieter is counter-intuitive, so I was pretty surprised the first time.....

Plus one on impact noise on target. At 25 FPE you are shooting at 800 fps or more, if you can get closer to the birds try 600fps. It's probably easier to just get another gun for closer and quieter like a .177 at 650-700FPS, deadly on birds up to around 50 yards. Then you can save the impact setup for longer shots.

Yeah I guess the pellet hitting the bird could be louder than the shot if closer to target, specially with hollow point.

I'll try my Dreamtac .177 at about 15fpe. Action is a bit louder than the Impact, but if the pellet hit is quieter then there might be a pigeon or two left around to drop.

I agree, the rifle report isn't the issue. But, since I hate to see anyone pass up an excuse for a new rifle, you should buy a Red Wolf in .177. There's no hammer and spring banging around, my .22 is very quiet with a silencer. Yep, you should order one now before they close!

Tried the Dreamtac .177 at low power. When the pigeon got hit, the ones around flew away but the ones far in the other side of the warehouse didn't. Making some progress here. Now I have no choice but get a new electronic rifle...

Have a short Vixen, ( 800 fps 16 grain) not all that quiet IMO. My .22 Streamline & Dreamline both shooting at 900 fps are less noisy to my ear. My vixen does shoot tighter groups at 40 yards.

Thanks for the info on the Vixen, that aligns with what I've been reading. A guy at AOA told me it was quieter than Redwolf. Guess it's more of a subjective matter.
