Most likely its an Iguana since Florida is overrun w/ them.

OTOH, depending on how close she lives to the Everglades, it COULD be a monitor. Aka 'Komodo Dragon'. They're fierce and venomous, apex predators. Their venom has a paralyzing agent. Their modus operandi is to dart in and bite a leg, then back off for a half hour while their venom goes to work and paralyzes their prey.

Giant lizard terrorizes Florida family after moving into their backyard

"He's a big fella, and he's scary," homeowner Zachary Lieberman told "GMA."

Komodo dragons are known to attack, kill, and eat humans. They ambush unwary people, running them down at speeds of close to 30 mph, and tear them apart with their bladelike teeth.

So who wants to go monitor hunting?

I want so badly to respond to these threads like this one but as an act of self preservation I'm restraining myself. Why people even toss pet dogs out the car window and sped off in the everglades. People? that's a lie.

I agree. It's an extreme act of selfishness, thoughtlessness, and cruelty to dump ones pet in the 1st place. Especially in an area like the Everglades that is full of predators.

What are your thoughts on the people who dump non native predatory reptiles in the Everglades?

Dumping snakes into the Everglades has to stop

The outcome of that suit is pending. Now, the Fish and Wildlife Service is again considering a ban on five snakes omitted from the 2012 decision — including the boa constrictor, green anaconda ...

We are a country of quite a few stupid people. Why you need pets like this is beyond me really most of them should not be aloud in the country. I knew a guy had a pet 5ft gavel which is basically an alligator. Kept the damn thing in a huge glass tank right behind the living room couch. I could never get comfortable watching the tv that thing would move around and freak me out every time.

A what? I looked that up and couldn't find anything online about a gavel. Is it anything like a Nile monitor?

As the illegal exotic pet trade continues to grow, so do the problems that come with it.
The lizards have been spotted across the state and are over 8 feet (2.4 meters) long and have been eating people’s pets – including their cats.

These guys in the Everglades came across this little feller. I wonder who put it there? .30 Hatsan Blitz might not be enough for this one. Might need a Benji Bulldog or even an Air Force .45....

There really are monsters living in those swamps and Everglades. What would be worse than being constricted by a big snake like that? Every time you exhale, they tighten up so you can’t get another breath.

In particular, knowing what the end result is going to be, that would be about as bad as it gets, Mike. As bad or worse than this guy and his 7 'beloved' pets....

DEATH BY LIZARD Ronald Huff who was eaten by his pet monitor lizards ‘was killed by the 6ft creatures when a BITE became infected’
Ronald Huff, 42, had his face, hands and stomach organs devoured by seven 6ft-long Nile monitor lizards he let roam free in his flat, in one of the most bizarre incidents of its kind.

Evidently so. From July 29, 2020:

‘A win for the Everglades’: 5,000 pythons removed in state-sponsored capture program
https://news.yahoo.com/win-everglades-5-000-pythons-123454781.html
Florida’s fight against the invasive Burmese python has hit a new milestone: 5,000 snakes captured in the Everglades since wildlife managers started paying hunters to remove the destructive constrictors in 2017.
The giant snakes are everywhere in South Florida, devouring mammals in the Everglades and disrupting the natural balance of predator and prey. They are such a threat to the health of the fragile ecosystem that state and federal wildlife managers have put a bounty on their heads and enlisted teams of hunters to track them down and take them out.

( 5 THOUSAND of them? Smh ) Previously, a record python was caught:

Two Florida python hunters caught the longest Burmese python ever captured in Florida. The female measured 18.9 feet, beating the state’s previous record for length of 18.8 feet.

This one was just a measly 17 footer. Too bad this guy didn't think of using the end of the snakes tail for a tourniquet. Heh.

Catching A Giant Python On Python Island

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drJDgVq2ApM

Catching A Giant Python On Python Island. Yesterday’s solo python island hunt in the Florida everglades was another one for the books! At 8am I headed out into the swamp on my 14’ jon boat in search of an giant python and at 11am I found her! She was a man eater and she wasn’t coming without a fight. I noticed her almost immediately as soon as we crossed paths, I could barely contain my excitement. She definitely was not afraid of me and started to slowly cruise through the vegetation as I carefully walked next to her trying to gauge exactly how large she was because of all the grass and weeds it was hard to tell but I could tell she was an absolute monster.

Her being tangled in vegetation makes the capture that much more difficult, a snake this size will use the vegetation as leverage and can literally pull you into the swamp, no stopping 150lbs of SOLID muscle. I knew going for her head first would be the easiest and safest capture method but I couldn’t turn down the chance to grab her by the tail and dance with the devil herself! As soon as I grabbed ahold of her I sealed my fate lol... no turning back now, she was coming for me!

She immediately started to battle it out, taking strikes and pulling me into some tall grass with her, making it difficult to dodge her strikes she was able to successfully get a bite on me. Only got me once but that’s all it took I was punctured quite deep on my bicep and forearm, piercing an artery and hitting some nerves, I was lucky she didn’t latch on and that I was able to pull out of it.

After loosing about a gallon of blood, I was able to tire her out and get her under control. I then used a snake bag I had on my waist to tourniquet my arm because I was getting worried about how much blood I was loosing, better safe then sorry. I then had to drag all 150lbs of her alive, working to control my breathing so I didn’t pass out from blood loss and the extreme heat that day, I would have been screwed.

After getting her to my boat, where my suppressed .22 pistol was, I was able to euthanize her before leaving, I didn’t have the proper bags for live transport because she was too large. Unofficial measurement: 17’ with kinks, record breaker?

This guy does like his histrionics. Had he lost a gallon of blood, he'd have passed out and become dinner for Momma. I also have to wonder why he didn't have his pistol on him. Sure would have saved him some pain and trouble.

How much are they paying to kill these? Any links?

**I found the link, I might sign up for this!

Python Elimination Program | South Florida Water Management District (sfwmd.gov)

*Two thumbs up* for the link. If I lived in Florida I'd sign up for this myself.

Python removal agents will be paid:

An hourly rate ($8.65 per hour or $15.00 per hour depending on the area) for up to ten (10) hours each day while actively searching for pythons on designated lands.
An additional incentive payment of $50.00 for each python measuring up to four (4) feet plus an extra $25.00 for each foot measured above four (4) feet. See example below:
An additional $200.00 for each verified active nest.

Not bad at all. I wonder if Texas has a similar program.

@Longfellow Hell, I might move for this. That could be real money with a good crew. And it would be helping the ecosystem, which actually does motivate me to get involved. Not as much as the cash, but it is what it is. I just wonder what the engagement rules are if you are out looking for pythons and have to shoot an alligator, or bear.

I'm sure the S Florida water management district governing board would explain the rules of engagement. Y'know, I've been espousing usage of the .30 Hatsan Blitz as a good air rifle to deal w/ these reptilian monsters ... but, in the vid I posted above, a pythons head isn't really all that big. It doesn't look like their skulls are very thick at all. They could likely be done in w/ a brain shot by H&N Hornets from an NP2 or possibly a Benji 392 ...maybe even from a flat topped 1322. Hmmm....

I like her...smart.

Becky Reichart: She knows her stuff.

That's a 17 foot 7 inch Burmese python skeleton in the pic.

No need for fire unless one wants to BBQ it afterward. I figure a .22 H&N Hornet fired into the brain of a python from my Crosman NP2 Summit Ranger, would likely work very well on one. As would a spinal shot at the base of its head where it connects to the neck.

@Longfellow I'm thinking a .22 would be fine for the pythons, I'm just concerned about what else I could encounter. Perhaps a .45 or .50 cal backup, and hunt the snakes with a .22. I've been thinking about the Blitz .30, but I've seen some bad reviews. I don't care for the SK19 with it's fixed magazine. I have been hoping to find out a bit more about those on these forums, though. How is the maintenance on the blitz?

I don't know. I don't have a Blitz. I've seen some of those reviews too. There have been some lemons sold.

https://www.amazon.com/Hatsan-Airsoft-Rifle-Blitz-Select/product-reviews/B089ZPMYW2

Truth to tell, .30 Blitz wouldn't be my 1st choice anyway. It's WAYYY too heavy. Weight is always the limiting factor. Especially when hunting in 100F heat and 100% humidity. I wouldn't worry too much about bears in the Everglades. They might be a problem if you're alone; they smell blood and they're hungry ... but, not so much if you're part of a group. SK19 is too expensive for my taste. W/ the exception of modding my lego 1322 / 1377's, I'm kind of a cheapskate when it comes to airguns. I'd rather buy cheap and then start spending money modding them to my liking.
