HW/Weihrauch Vintage HW30S Courtesy of Air Canada

Since Bob & Doug Air is shut down and I’m not picking Kim up at airport today I decided to peruse estate sales. First one had a pic of what looked like two Blue Streaks, a Daisy underlever carbine, and an unmistakable HW breech block. Couldn’t tell which model from pics. First time I’ve ever seen respectable air rifles at estate sale here. 33 miles away, was rolling in less than 5. The Streaks and Daisy had sold on first day of sale Thursday, but this little HW30 was still there. And it was half price day too! Some wear, some surface rust, trigger guard so loose I’m surprised it didn’t fall on the floor, this girl was used. But, rifling looked good and Rekord trigger on it. Pre-safety. Paid and ran. Got home, tightened trigger guard, grabbed some AA 8.4 that were already on table. Not only did it shoot, it shot great! Beautiful shot cycle, NO buzz, NO twang. Trigger was crisp. Will chrono when it’s not 98 degrees and 110 heat index outside but my guess is it’s close to spec. Date code puts this one at 1967 according to The List so assuming it’s a leather seal? Looks like the metal cap on the end where safety would be on a new one just pops off to fit on a spring compressor but someone correct me if I’m wrong. Neat little rifle, glad I found it. Just hope Bob & Doug don’t expect a thank you, because they’re definitely not on our Christmas list this year.

love the rounded pistol grip on these old ones , wonderful find worth twice the distance .
(isn't 33 miles considered close in TX. miles ?)

I wouldn’t fly Air Canada. I would rather fly pterodactyl dinosaur with the Flintstones. Or even walk.
What a score on the 30. Very nice, enjoy. Crow

Kim drives 55 to work one way and when I go to the office mine is 70 one way. So 33 to pick this up was a no brainer. Cleaned up nicely, barrel is only thing that could use re-bluing. Two things were obvious after a closer look. Someone loved this gun and used it, this was no safe queen. Two, they took excellent care of it.

Crow, we and a whole lot of other people now feel the same about B&D Air. At best they’re a 2nd tier international airline now. Won’t get any more of our bidness.

That's great! I recently got a more or less identical vintage 30, and love it. Light, well-balanced, and fun to shoot...the slender finger-groove stock makes even an R7 seem chunky, lol. Yours is in great shape too, it's rare to find one with the front sight hood still on it.

My gun was an Air Rifle Headquarters import that had been "tuned" back in the day with an immense amount of moly grease! It shoots even better after a cleanout, Maccari spring, and fresh lubes. Some quick work with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue vastly improved its appearance, but it's not as nice as yours!

Thanks, Mike. I saw your excellent write up on that gun last night while looking for more info on these old 30s. Will likely follow a similar pattern. And yes, so much fun to shoot! Put another 25 or so pellets through last night and has really woken up with use. You and KWK confirmed what I thought, seems to have a little more pop than the newer ones. At least that’s what the adult beverage can it kicked around said ha ha!

I wasn’t kidding. Worst service. This is actually the best thing, I’ve heard that they’re capeable of. Crow
