Veteran .25 Shooting Question?!

I'm 76, and in my experience dating back to Dr. Beeman in the 1970's, with my springer HW55, and many many pcp's and scopes since then, my extensive research in advanced physics, reduced to layman's terms, has indicated accuracy always seems to deteriorate when you are attempting precision shooting, while freezing your ass off.

So when I was shooting at 35 yards, I was using high magnification. My scope goes from 5.5 to 25x magnification. So when I was looking at my reticle, the center dot was a tiny dot in the middle of the bullseye. and i couldn't have a clear place to anchor. After reducing the magnification of the scope down from 5.5 to 9, now I can see the center of the reticle cover most of the bullseye. So if i deviate, i can see more clearly when I am off. I hope the pic will help
