Valve on scba tank

WHen you put a valve on a scba tank there is an O ring do you put teflon tape on the threads also ?

The O-ring alone will provide the necessary air seal for your tank valve. There is no need for TFE tape which is a sealant.. I recommend a light coating of silicone grease on the valve threads to assist in unscrewing the valve for inspection at a later date. The O-ring seal under a very small amount of air pressure in a tank makes it stay on incredibly tight. Dry threads can seize over extended periods and are a PITA to loosen for removal.

I’ll second that @humdinger. Last tank I took to dive shop to get hydro’d they strapped the tank into the tank vise and needed a 4 foot cheater bar on the wrench to break loose the valve. I thought they were going to rip the valve right off the tank. So definitely use some silicon grease as anti-seize on the threads when you put it back together.
