UTG 4-16X44 30mm AO Scope Alternative?

"JoeWayneRhea"The fact that when you purchase your scope you're already thinking about the return policy tells me a lot about the Optics itself
Not really. There are hundreds of people saying the scope works absolutely fine, and then there are a few, including you, that say the scope sucks. So, the best thing to me is to just try it. No better place than Walmart, or Amazon when it comes to trying things.

"JoeWayneRhea"I'm not trying to be a snob at all. I'm quite a few cheap Scopes but I also own some really good quality scopes and the fact of the matter is for a hundred and twenty-five $150 you're only going to get so much quality
Not a snob at all...

You are probably right. Only so much quality I am going to get. That is fine. But how much quality do I really need? I don't need Mark Zuckerbergs billions. 5 would do just fine... : )

"JoeWayneRhea"Thanks KMD , a lott of guys wanna jump all over you for expressing opinions that aren't popular . I don't want to sound like I'm crapping on someone's stuff .
If I could afford it I'd own nothing but the best ...But that's not my luck lol.
Any time.

You feel this way because you cannot afford certain things (I hope I understood you correctly), but believe me, if you had all the money in the world, and you would have bought everything you ever wanted, you wouldn't be a happier man.

Change of subject. I do not want to start a new thread (yet) so maybe someone can chip in here and tell me what the heck is going on?!

I just ran to Walmart and got this scope. YES, totally cheap, no doubt. However, I needed a scope right this second, to not go nuts. I have been trying to zero my GAMO scope all day long and I was not able to do so. No matter what I tried, my pellets were all over the place. When taking the scope of and using the open sights, the gun shoots totally fine! Anyhow, this is a different subject. I just wanted to go and get a different scope to "confirm" that it must my scope that is all screwed up...

That said, the new scope is weird, to say the least. My GAMO scope allows me to adjust the focus on a ring in the front. This scope does not have a ring like that?! Only way to adjust focus is to use a ring that is all the way at the end (where your eye is). But when I do that, the reticle gets out of focus??? Makes no sense to me?!

Thanks,

Kmd

Sounds like the scope you bought is fixed parallax/focus. Usually if they're designed for centerfire the parallax is set at 100 yards. Sounds like the Gamo scope is moving-is it on a springer?

WOW, I had no idea they even make scopes like that?! But I guess you are right. That must be it...

I had the same problem before, but after posting on here, I was able to figure out what the problem was. Scope Creep! I took everything apart and back together, but this time I set the set screw right and used Loctite. That fixed the problem. However, that was with a different scope. I returned that one because it didn't have Mil-Dots. At the time I bought it, I didn't even know about Mil-Dots, ha ha. Anyhow. I am wondering if the scope (GAMO) got banged around to much and got "damaged"?! That is the only thing I can imagine at this point why the scope is not working right.

I know that it is not moving around! I am 100% sure!

Could it be the pellets I am using? JSB EXACT Beast 16,20gr. CAL. 177

Thanks,

Kmd

EDIT: My eye sight isn't the best anymore, but I was able to easily shoot groups at 10 meters the size of a quarter, using the open sights. When I use the scope, the pellet might me 5 inches to left, and the next shot 5 inches to the right, at 25 meters?!?!?

KMD that UTG scope has a side focus . Some are on the front bell, some are on the side. The front or side focus on scopes are to eliminate parallax. On a lot of scopes when parallax is eliminated the target may not be in sharp focus ....It sucks but it's something that just happens . Its one of the MANY trade offs us mere mortals have to put up with with affordable scopes . You tube parallax on scopes , it'll explain it a loteasier than telling it will

I was just about to start a new thread on the subject.

Anyhow, I already watch a few videos on Parallax (just like this one) and it was not that hard to understand what Parallax is. However, I always thought that the wheel on the side ONLY adjusts Parallax and not Focus?! Unless they are both the "same"? I guess so?!

Thanks,

Kmd

P.s. What is the best way to "see" if a scope is NOT fixed focus???
