Usps sucks a big one!

We often received the dreaded orange "Sorry we missed you card" until my wife started using her mothers strategy of occasionally leaving little baggies of fresh baked cookies in the mailbox for the postman. It also works with the waste management truck. We have a two bin maximum limit on refuse, but they will haul away anything for the nice little lady who leaves them treats. It sure beats driving to the post office or hauling a defunct appliance to the dump. Simply knowing their names and a friendly wave can make the difference with people if they know you appreciate their efforts.

My $.02...When I am in line at the post office, I listen all the time to the complaints. Too slow. Not enough clerks, etc.

Then when I reach the clerk, I ask for a job application and hand it to the complaining customer.

They turn all red in the face, refuse it and turn away.

Like any job, there are some who don’t give 100%, including where you worked.

You can complain about the sale papers that jam your mailbox every week but if it was not for those sale brochures (Bulk Business Mail), your mail prices would be much higher.

I am retired from the Air Force and the FAA where I was an air traffic controller for 42 years.

But for awhile I was letter carrier, in one of the most down trodden areas of the city.

The people there didn’t care one bit about me until the last day of the month....Welfare

When a carrier passes a collection box, they are required to empty that box (Yes they have regular times to pick up the mail, too).

You cannot believe what some of the human trash in this country can place in those mail boxes. I will not go into detail except:

Firearms, ladies purses, mens wallets, knives, and human waste of all description, etc...

But...and this is very important...I was on my route one day as a developmental (they assign different routes every day to trainees) and this elderly woman came to the door as I was delivering her TV Guide. She ased if I was her new mailman? I explained that it was just for today. Then I asked why? She said she always gave her mailman $5.00 a week to knock on her door every day even if she had no mail. She said she had no family and didn’t want to die and rot away in her house alone. I mentioned the occurance to my supervisor and he said he knew about it and that the $5.00 was used to send her flowers on a regular basis.

So, think about where you work or have worked over the years. Could things have gone better there?

I think so..

My UPS guy growing up was a family friend,
and my USPS guy growing up was an older personal friend [teacher's brother]
so I literally gave them a spare key to our back door, and they'd just put everything important in our kitchen. haha

Gone are those days..

I just got moved into my new apt over one of our other vape shop locations,
so totally new area and new delivery guys..

Donny from DonnyFL sent my 1st USPS package the 1st day I got here,
and the mail man had it on the shop doorsteps before we even opened.. 9:30am
I've had a few Amazon orders since, and USPS had the same kid, and at the same time..
Almost 9:30 on the dot.. Nice.. I can get used to that.

A UPS package was scheduled today, and I know they usually run a bit later..
The driver hand delivered it into the shop - to me directly.

So far - So good.

Here's a funny one..
Last month, I was in Fulton NY. Made an e-bay order - It shipped from Rochester NY.
I tracked it 2 days after my sale/order. Then a few days later, and a few days later..
That package literally sat in Rochester's USPS for almost Two Weeks!
The seller was irked, I was irked, etc. Again, I could have driven there and got it in person, the same day,
stopped for lunch, found a strip club, gone out on the town later on, well.. you get the idea.. haha

FrankinFairfield,

Great post! That's awesome about the elderly woman, and how the USPS employees responded. 👍

The area you described sounds exactly like the area where I was from [Cortland NY]
I swear, the area went downhill faster than an avalanche, and the thing about the people not caring at all
Until The 1st - Yuuup.. You nailed it. The dregs of society sure do have a way of ruining it for the rest of us.

[Edit]

PS: Thank You For Your Service!! 🙂

Tweeter,

Glad to hear that you got your happy ending!
"Not even at the strip club" - Well, I tracked your IP address,
and it placed you at a local Japanese massage parlor, so . . . close enough. 🤣

I'm the worst of both: Impulse buyer & Impatient, especially with air gun and camera stuff,
so I can 100% relate on the frustrations that come into play when I / we have to wait..

It's like being a kid again, waiting impatiently to tear into Christmas presents,
just to find out that Santa never came, and your folks only left a mini stocking out filled with coal blocks..
[Annnd yes . . . that actually did happen once. My parents have an odd sense of humor too] lol
Glad they broke out the other stuff quickly before my sister and I went catatonic or ballistic on them. hahaha

BTW, that's a really sweet bipod!
I always go with UTG 360 Recons myself, but only because I get 1 for each and every rifle I have..

What are you sticking this one on? Just curious..
And . . . PICS or it didn't happen! 😜

Yeah the massage parlor, less chance of being caught there haha! 😆

It's going back on my Leshiy. I had the PSR Atlas but didn't like how when you would try to cant it it would stand itself upright. The "limiting bosses" that were supposed to stop it from rocking back and forward are made from some type of hard rubber and it causes the issue I had. The regular V8 Atlas doesn't have the bosses and I can already tell it's better. I can cant my gun now and it doesn't move a bit. Also the PSR has a screw in each leg that keeps the legs from rotating and they can fetch up when extending or collapsing the legs so it isn't as smooth as it could be. V8 is better in that regard too IMO if you can live with the legs rotating. The legs on this are more wobbly then the PSR when extended. Both great bipods but I like this one better.

Ever since fedex began giving the post office it’s overflow the post office has been having difficulties in handling the extra work. Where I live when they are running late with deliveries the post man just keeps the boxes that won’t fit in mailbox that require a 100 ft walk to my porch sometimes I’ll get it the next day sometimes it takes a few days. My mailman is honest but extreamly lazy. Complaining doesn’t help as their union protects them. I think it should be like ever job I had if you don’t preform your gone. One day the government will wise up and take the mail totally private. Back in the 70s when they went on strike I was activated in the reserves and worked as a postal worker for a week or 2. My group of reservists roughly 1/4 the normal amount of postal workers did the job in half the time. I know there must be some good ones out there but lack of strong leadership makes failure a sure thing.

I have a Great mailman,he puts my packages on my basement ledge,he has to bend and be careeful,he doesn't have to do it,he could put a "come to the office slip" in my mailbox,I know I am lucky to have him

To be honest I would be pissed if your situation happened to me,I would cuss and properly overeat!

Thank you for sharing, heck I think I will overeat for you.

Tweeter,

Right on man, I r-e-a-l-l-y dig those Leshiys! That's going to be a fantastic combo!
I understand exactly what you've described, especially since with my bipods, I sort of dealt with the same thing..
Then I found a way to mess around with different tension screws, so I can adjust the cant..
Either it'll allow the 'pivot' to flex easier for a free range of motion, or, it'll lock down tight. Nice features for sure..

Thanks for the details on both of the Atlas models! That info is really nice to know!

🙂👍

tweet,

Hell ya WHAT were they thinking? Your mail is THE most urgent parcel carried and should be their highest priority period no matter exigent circumstance. Just thinking of the potential societal ramification's of any delay of said package, well damn it's , well works escape me.

John

No, not at all but they should do their freaking job, you know, like I DO when I go to work? I don't go to work and spend my time trying to find ways to make my life easier I just do what I am supposed to do. Anyway, don't let me keep you, you have another million threads to respond to.

You should have seen me standing at my mailbox holding that card lol. I was so pissed I actually started laughing. I almost got in my truck and chased him down but thought better of it. And plus to do that I would have had to quickly make it back up my perilous driveway. I had to walk to the nearest sporting goods store to buy crampons and an ice axe just to make it up to my porch. Imagine that, I got the first ever free solo winter ascent of my driveway! 🏃

So I was waiting today for the delivery of my Huma reg that I bought for my Leshiy and then... Nothing. She pulled the same old stunt on me and just decided not to deliver my package. This time though she couldn't even be bothered to fill out a "so SORRY we missed you..." slip. I checked the tracking and it says that they could not gain access to the delivery area. Are you kidding me lol? It was 5:10pm by the time I tracked it and the P.O. was closed or I would have pitched a fit. Will they just leave it at the post office tomorrow so that I can pick it up or do I have to hope that my mailman (fat lazy mail lady) feels like doing their job?

There is no issue with access to my house, it's about 20ft from the road to my front door and with the warm weather we've had the last few days my driveway is all dirt.

Derp......

I request you complaining folks go to USPS and send a envelope to your neighbor then go to your nearest UPS office and send the same size and weight envelope to your neighbor. Go to UPS and send 4 tins of pellets to your buddy across the country and pay for a 3 day delivery. You will fall over at the price. Go to USPS and send them 3 days it will cost you about $6.00-7.00 if you use the right package. Please reply to me the results of your experiment. Keep complaining and privatize the post office. You will never be able to afford to send anything. Most people don't know the post office does not receive money from tax payers. Yet the government makes them pay full retirement for employees 75 years in advance. Does your company have a fully funded retirement plan for you? That is the biggest reason the post office is in dept. So if you think USPS sucks use UPS FEDX or Pigeons.(hopefully your neighbor doesn't shoot it with his new FX Crown that just got delivered by USPS ) and your letter never gets there.

Where I live the USPS workers actually steal your stuff. I talked some guy into taking PayPal for a $150 scope, then it just disappeared when it got 3/4 of the way too me. ...just vanished according to the tracking info. Then I heard they will hire anyone at USPS and that stuff happens a lot....way more than with any other carriers. Fed ex is my favorite, they are cheap and reliable....but they will purposely break any large or heavy packages. They have destroyed 3-4 of my 50+ pound eBay items...like purposely threw them off a large dock to something. Last one was a $1000 vintage stereo unit. The buyer still gave me $400 for the mangled unit...but it was a shame. Of course no insurance from fed ex. They will never pay you.

but they will ship a rifle for $25!

Fortunately, the Royal Mail (the national postal service here in Blighty) is pretty good. Added bonus is that my postman is a lady, and watching her jog around the street in the summer in her shorts and T shirt is quite pleasant. I'm always nice to her and as a result my parcels always get delivered safely, and if I'm not home she stashes them in a little safe spot we agreed. Couldn't ask for more.

Most of the private delivery firms such as Yodel, Herpes, UPS etc, and pretty dire.
