I bought this from a fellow member on here and received it yesterday. His picture didn't have/show this scratch. I didn't ask if there was any damage (My fault) but you would think they'd showcase this before selling it. Do you think it is still safe to use? Feels like 1mm deep.

If he had shown a picture of it but hadn't said anything or stated anything regarding the condition, I'd give it a pass, but he definitely did it on purpose if thats not the case.

To answer your question, I have s c b a tanks with worst gashes than that that i've used for well over a year about any issues
It's really going to depend on you, also, how often you fill that bottle and the age of the bottle.

This is the picture he sent me before he shipped it. Good until 2033.

I think it might be a good idea to take off the rubber protector and inspect the entire bottle. However, the rubber protector is hard to remove. I will give an update later. I did send a message yesterday to the seller about this scratch. Just waiting for a response from him if this scratch was there prior to shipping it. Packaging was good.

If you have any recourse for partial reimbursement or returning I'd pursue that. If there's no fiber damage you're OK but that was a really shady move and they deserve the negative feedback if they get any. Super shady. If fibers aren't compromised you can carefully fill it with clear 2 part epoxy and do a little resin repair for cosmetic reasons. If fibers are compromised, retire it for safety.

I'm waiting for the seller's response. It's been over 24 hours. I'll give him a day or two to respond.

Looking at the damage more closely… it may have gotten to the carbon fiber… but I’m not sure. It doesn’t seem like there’s a thick layer of resin unlike the 6.8L and 9L air tanks… Also there’s more damage on the neck of the bottle. I did cut the shrink wrap to inspect the rest of the bottle. Everything else looks good.

The two small ones aren't a worry other than value for what you paid for. I'm going to Geek out here a little since I've been involved with small fiber wrapped hpa cylinders since they hit the consumer market.

These cylinders don't fail in a highly energetic way unless you've done something terribly stupid on accident or on purpose like heli coils, oiled the valve pin etc, cutting it with a tool or shooting at it.

Watch the damage, if you see crazing form in the resin surrounding it or attached to the fiber you'll need to do something carefully and quickly to degas or remove it. Your damage is in one of the strongest areas of the cylinder. If it were me, I'd epoxy it and buff it out to match because I understand the risk and signs of an oncoming bloat and failure and possibly do my own DIY hydro (professional places will likely drill a hole in it) . Zooming in I don't see how it wouldn't have hit some fibers, but it hasn't failed yet. This is as close to a wash as I've seen. I hope you didn't pay too much if it came with the fx valve.

It's a tough call, it's up to you to choose and if he takes a return I'd take pics of any identifying marks and watch for that to be sold again and blow up the issue so nobody else gets it that won't know any better.

I made repair parts for luxfers fiber wrap machine. They'll reject for anything minor... They have a name to preserve. Ex. If the threads have to be brushed 2x because there's a burr or a tight spec, the cylinder doesn't make it out of the shop. I got to see some rejects. Thread brushing, pitting in the aluminum cylinder or oxidation of the aluminum. Rejected.

Shrink tube is the first red flag in a bottle sale.
