Uragan 30 tuning

After tearing down the gun, and some testing heres what ive learned:

- Huma reg extra plenum doesnt add much if anything for speed

-this gun is pretty much maxed out at 85 ftlbs @ 150 bar

- plenum size is around 50cc w huma

-port size is .236

Sooo..time to get to work! My goal is 100ft lbs. this is not going to happen with a 22” barrel and .236 ports. To get there, Im going to need a tj barrel But I dont want to extend the oal of the gun. Theres a good 4-5 inches of open shroud I can use up and just rely on the ronin to quiet it down.

The plenum is going to be tricky, but Ive got some really trick ideas! Porting wont be terribly bad. The valve seat is part of the gun on the .30 but I can get in there. Im going to open up to about .270 and make a peek valve.

Some extra things Ive already started is a metal trigger. Something about plastic triggers rub me the wrong way. Now with all that said dont get the wrong idea the gun from the factory is tuned about perfect for the port size, plenum and barrel length. Its so whisper quiet with the ronin you will think the gun is broke lol. If your happy at 84ftlbs with pellets this gun is just awesome!! I bought this gun with the intention of extensively tuning it to reach a goal of a compact 100ftlb with slugs for night time coyote hunting.

Alright well did some testing with porting! All test done with jsb 44.75gr

150 bar huma reg : 918 fps

150 bar huma ported: 950 fps

160 bar huma ported 979 fps

170 bar huma ported 1015 fps

Next test is going to be 27.5” tj barrel and slugs. I also recrowned the barrel and took 5 shots at 50 yards real quick and it was literally the same hole. The crown under 20x mag looked a little harsh.

Im gonna try this valve today. Lower is PEEK, upper is a reamer blank ground. The valve return spring in these guns is next to nothing so Im gonna try it without one. I can slam it shut with my tank.

I think you should make the poppet OD smaller. say .325 instead of .340. more air around the poppet and easier to knock open.

or keep the poppet at .340 but open the throat to .308 and barrel port to .280. you can move slugs a bit faster

Ended up ditching my original goals. I found such a great balance of power/accuracy and shot count.

I went with a .310 peek poppet, .290 throat, .264 transfer and barrel. At 155 bar now it shoots 970fps with a very low es in the single digits and so far has been very good at 90 yards. The shot cycle is smoother, im backed out on the hammer spring more than stock and getting 50 fps more. I can get to 990 but 970 shot awesome. This is with jsb 44.75’s. Im gonna leave it at that.

Well, couldnt leave well enough alone. I fitted a 28” tj barrel. And it is AWESOME! . At 150 bar, same tune ( slightly smaller valve) that was shooting 918-920, now shoots 1017 fps! Hit my 100 fpe easy with plenty to go. I just tried some 44gr nsa slugs at 990 and wasnt even trying. So, bumped up to 170 bar and now spits out 49.5 nsa at 1000 fps. Dropped the hammer down to 980 fps and so far its moa or better at 100.
