Updated My Pellet & Slug Catch Box

Nice little trap Bill. I use a wood box with a couple of inches of "duct seal" in it but that is no good for checking the fired pellet/slug.

As kids we used to hang a few 18 inch square pieces of flannel (using clothespins) as a series of "curtains" an inch apart to catch BBs. Being tight weave, light weight and free to move the flannel would deflect back with the BB absorbing the energy so that we could use it again. After a couple of shots the first curtain might pull free of the clothespins but the backup curtains would be there.

Don't know what energy levels you are working with but free hanging curtains might do better that wadded rags.

Just a thought.

Vana,

My target box uses curtains too. My curtains are 2 semi-truck mud flaps. The box has a funnel bottom and all pellets fall into a coffee can. It is a self cleaning trap. This system is 15 years old and still works great. Thick used and affordable conveyor belts work as excellent curtains too and can be bought on the net with a search.

For same hole chronograph testing I use a Gamo funnel target wit a wool sock stuffed into the end.

@DonC

Excellent idea!

Winter is here in Canada so I shoot a lot of 10 meter stuff in the basement. The duct seal in my trap is due to be replaced so I think I III will look around for some flaps or conveyor belt material to see what I can come up with.

Would be a good way to be able to recycle the lead so I could cast some fishing weights and jigs.

Thanks for the suggestion!
