Updated ChairGun packages now available.

ChairGun-USE

A new "User Supported Edition" of ChairGun Pro, updated to operate on modern devices, and extended to run on MacOS, Windows and Linux, is now available for those of you who are having trouble running it on your modern devices.

If you already have the Original Developer’s edition of ChairGun running on your system, this is not likely to help you very much.

This special "User Supported Edition" has been released with the original developer's permission.

For more information, and to download the software, please see:

For your convenience, Airgun Nation has also added a link to it in their Resources section, under Calculators.

It should be. I can change reticles and magnifications on my Windows 10 machine.

Are you using Oracle Java 8?

Many things don't work right using OpenJava. It won't even run on some systems using OpenJava.

What do you mean by "from a different source"?
There was a link on hawke’s website for the old software and I am using Java. I’m not very good with computers maybe source was the wrong term. What do I need other than Java to run the software?

It's possible to get Hawke's version to run on modern Windows machines, but you need to know something about computers to do it. And what you would have to do is not really a recommended practice.

I suggest you uninstall Hawke's version and download ChairGun-USE. Even it is not the easiest to install; but it has step by step instructions how to do it, with pictures. And if you follow the directions that come with the download, it should run fine.

Just don't panic when you see the instructions! Just take it step by step, and when you're done, it should work fine.

I can't really support Hawke's ChairGun, just like they can't support ChairGun-USE. While they look much the same on the outside, there are significant differences to some of their insides. And neither of us is privy the insides of each other's software.

I have no problems with Chairgun downloaded from this site. No, it hasn't been updated and won't be updated, but I KNOW it is safe.

Not so for this "new" version. I hope it can bake my bread and crank my tractor, but I will let others find out it is safe to use.

The original Chairgun does require JAVA (not Java-Script) to run, but if you already have JAVA running on your computer and most people have it whether they know it or not, then you have already had it prompt you to update it.

This "new" version? As I said, I will let "others" find that out. Not worth the risk for me.

All my best!

Absolutely love the idea of reviving Chairgun, but I will wait and let others find out if this is worth the risk, given that nobody knows anything about this "new" "updated" version of Chairgun.

Not making any accusations, just being cautious.

All my best!

I understand completely. But if you look at it from my viewpoint, perhaps you can understand my desire for anonymity.

Hawke Optics has given me permission to release this version of ChairGun. They appear to be the copyright holders of it. And they have told me they are not aware of anybody else with any legal claim to it. None-the-less, given the state of our legal system, there is nothing saying that somebody else might not come out of the woodwork claiming I've infringed on "their" rights.

Further, I'm not a lawyer, nor do I have a legal staff. While I think the ways I have released the software are all in conformance with Oracle's licenses ... who has the legal staff that they have?

I'm trying to be a nice guy and share this work with others so I'm not the only one benefitting from it.

But I don't want any trouble from it.

No problem. If it turns out that your version of Chairgun is safe to use, then by all means I will try it.

Until it is proven/verified safe... I will leave it to others to find that out. Not worth the risk for me. Plain and simple.

In case it turns out that your "new" version of Chairgun is safe to use, I will be one of your best proponents.

Until then... there are too many red flags for me.

All my best!
