Update to the "Dirt cheap" Gamo Urban...

Finally got the goofy black cucumber off the end. Reduced the OAL to 37.25"

I think I'll add the Donnyfl adapter to give it a more finished look. Currently threaded the end to 1/2 X 20.

How quiet is it? Compared to before?

CA

I've only shot it indoors so far...but it's perhaps a touch louder. Not too bad. The Tatsu I have is a .25 and just what I currently had on hand. I shot it without anything on the end. Holy HELL!! That sucker was L O U D !!

The length right now is Fantastic for a hunting/woods rifle.

How did you thread the end....I price down to $199 right now

I ran a 1/2 x 20 die over the end, which has a smaller OD than the rest of the barrel to accommodate the stock moderator.

I would guess you might have problems with correct alignment if you were able to thread that barrel by hand. I would think you will see the moderator moving if pushed to side. See what happens to your groups.

And are you saying it's 37.25 with the Tatsu attached?

I double checked the alignment via a rod down the bore after running a straight edge along the outside of the moderator at 3-6-9 and 12 o'clock. It has a snug fit with zero lateral movement.

My plan is to add a Donny Fl slip fit adapter for a more finished look. (Held in place by 2 set screws.)

The sound level is comparable to the plastic factory unit...and it looks a HELL of a lot better, not like some Buck Rodgers inspired Death-Ray doo-dad.

And Yes, 37 1/4" with the Tatsu. I Love the length! (It was already pretty short.)

Do you Urban owners think the barrel is stable enough to remove the barrrl band? What are the benefits if any. I just got mine today (first pcp) and I’m already wanting to tinker/improve on it.

I found the barrel to be really dirty out of the box. Spent 20 minutes cleaning it. Sighted it in 6 shots. Holy crap it’s so much more fun to shoot than the Gamo Maxim I took the scope off of. Shot about 20 more times til the pressure got down to 1000psi. Now I have to wait for my hand pump to get here. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.

Im gonna have to get some medium or low rings as the Maxxim mounts I had are way to high. That’s okay though I’m just so excited to have my first pcp.

Im gonna shoot the crap out of this thing til I save up enough money to get a Wildcat or Impact. Gonna have to go with a .25 when that happens.

Thanks for all the info guys and gals

I'm waiting it out for the stocks to dip even furthur before buying in. Hopefully within the $150 mark.

I have a BSA R10 in 22 and just the extra magazine I was going to buy cost $49.99 so my logic is that I get

the gun without the mag for $100.00 if that makes any sense!!! Or a $100 gun that shares 2 mags...

I have a 177 BSA Buccaneer that has a HUMA installed that can possibly swap uppers too...

Haha, CA, you got it all figured out brother.

I'm just gonna leave it stock. Got a friend who has been looking into getting an air rifle for him and his daughter to spend some quality time together. Figured this would be the perfect loaner to see if they want to really get into it.

Walmart hit me up with $13.50 in sales tax, so it cost me $213.49

I've never had the pleasure to own a BSA. I hear lots of good things about them though!

If they go down to $150 I'll be sick! LOL Good luck with that!

The barrel is definitely sturdy enough without the plastic (!) barrel band. Any kind of impact that would damage the barrel or breech wont be avoided by that band. However,if the rifle is bumped hard enough to flex the barrel,I believe that the band has enough clamping force to prevent an acceptable return to zero.

FYI,although the band is plastic,it seems that BSA uses synthetics of very good quality...including the stock which is not flimsy at all and well designed.

Mike.

Got a pic of the threads (without the mod on)? I can't see how you were able to cut deep enough threads, unless that barrel is really soft metal.

Also what was the length before? Some sites list 42", but others list 39.5? To me it doesn't look almost 5" shorter then stock.
