Unregulated Benjamin Maximus

How many shots are you guys getting, on average from a unregulated Benjamin Maximus 22 caliber? I'm getting about 20 from 2000 psi to 1200 psi. Is this normal? Accuracy really starts to fall off at about 1500 psi, making any type of grouping/sighting  determination difficult. I'm dead on from 2000 ps to 1700 psi which is only about 10 shots, but 2 inches left at 1500 psi!!!!!!!!! Using H&N FTT 14.66 grains. I've done no modifications this rifle. and there are no leaks, barrel is clean!

I am getting 20 good shots from 2000 down to 1400 or so. First 15 shots are dead on while the next 5 are pretty close to the same. I can shoot to 30 without the horizontal wandering you report but I do see a drop of 1/2 to 1 mildot at 50 yards. I am blessed - the rifle loves Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum (Domes) in 14.3 gr so the cost of shooting is minimal. All in all I'm very happy with the rifle.

That is exactly my experience with the Maximus.About 20 good shots, but only 10 shots hole in hole accuracy. It’s a good hunter because while hunting, most people only need a few shots. But for target it shooting it was not a fun rifle for me.

If someone has a Maximus good chance you are hand pumping. That gets old quick if you only get a few accurate shots.

Thats why I sold it and got a marauder, which got about 40 good shots. Which has now transformed into a bottle rod that gets 120+ shots.

Your shot count is normal. The shift as pressure changes is not unheard of with tight barrel bands. Try loosening the barrel band and see what changes. You can get some consistancy in the velocity by cutting a couple coils off the hammer spring, but you will need a chronograph to know where it is at now and where to stop. The factory tune is a descending shot string, you want to back off the hammer spring enough to get a proper bell curve. Going much deeper than that with a tune is pretty much a waste of time unless you are all in for the learning experience.
