After the incident with the chipmunks and hitting high with 8 pumps, I decided to re-sight the rifle at 20 yards/8 pumps instead of 5 pumps.
My first groups were hitting on target, but about 2" high with 8 pumps. I tried dialing in some adjustment on the scope, but the groups wouldn't come down and I hit the stop on the scope, so I decided to remove the 'shim' that I had placed under the rear of the scope. That brought the groups down and I was able to adjust the scope so the 392 was hitting "on" at 20 yards/8 pumps with 3/8" groups. All in all, I fired over 50 pellets to get everything in line, that's A LOT of pumping! Especially when the scope is right where your hand is supposed to be while pumping, those last 3 pumps are HARD!
I was sitting at the bench and I found that if I placed the rifle's stock between my knees and my right hand near the top of the barrel (with my fingers on the pivot point on the air tube) and pumped with my left hand, 8 pumps was EASY. Doing it this way made it possible for me to pump the 392 8 times for 50+ shots without wearing myself out . . . I don't even feel it today!
Here are the results of yesterday's shooting Crow Magnums @ 20 yards, 8 pumps . . . shot #3 was a called flier, so I fired an extra shot to make it a 5 shot group.
Interesting thing: with the sun at the angle it was, I could SEE the pellets through the scope as they flew towards the target-kind of like how during night shooting videos you can see the pellet's flight. I thought it was neat. But then again, I'm easily amused
