Umarex Origin .22 good beginner value?

Hi All,

Getting back into pcp after a long absence. Looking for a decent, low cost repeater rifle for punching paper, pesting and maybe some rabbits/squirrels later. It appears that I can buy the .22 Umarex Origin with pump for $350 (before black Friday discount). Wish I could buy the .25 with pump but the deal appears to be limited to the .22.

Is this a decent rifle for beginners? Is there something else you would recommend instead? Any recommendations for a low cost AO scope? Sure would appreciate any advice and poiinters......

The Origin was my first PCP. The rifle suffered from shifting points of impact, which I could not solve, so I sold it. Many users reported similar issues, which was probably a barrel issue. I would have it sighted in for a session, and then the next time I took it out it would hit 1" right or left. The hand pump combo was what drew me to it, but the hand pump only lasted about two weeks. For that price point, I suggest looking at the Gamo Urban, and buy a hand pump. The Urban is available at Pyramydair.com and they currently are running a 11% off sale. Read the reviews for the Urban. It is a very good entry level rifle.

Here is a decent hand pump to consider: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LPL57WD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good luck with your decision! Keep us posted. There are a lot of great guns available. What makes choosing a rifle very difficult is that unless you live close to an airgun shop, you won't be able to hold and shoot the rifle before making the purchase. Luckily, most online retailers will give you a 30-day return period, in case you really don't like how the gun shoulders and shoots.

The Urban is on sale on Amazon:

If going first and budget id probly stick with .22 . Then get cphp all fay at walmart easy and cheap to shoot not mailorder expence and hassle when i want to. ( Opinion) .

Not tring to promote or convince, but just looking at user vids for a sub $200 out of the he box and a package scope used not bad at all i thinks.

Have you tried that rifle? I'm considering one in .177 for a backyard plinker.

No , but i took interest in it some. Im not big on pcp due to the extra overhead cost / support on just to shoot one. Like pump or compressor .

I just prefer good ol cock load and shoot all day as much as i want of a decent springer. Only over head is pellets.. lol. As far as just the pcp gun itself theres some nice offerings .

Another thing for me is i never buy a gun that dont have iron sights . I just cant do a gun that leaves me scope only. If the scope fails i can still go shoot it without kinda thing . I do prefer iron sight shooting most anyway .. Gamo arrow does offer that .

Origin was my first and I thought it was a great first PCP. It was very accurate and loads of fun to shoot.
The included hand pump worked well, but did need occasional attention. Mostly cleaning check valves.
Mind did develop a bad leak at around 7000 shots. I probably could have fixed it myself but it still had warranty. Umarex replaced it no questions asked.
The only problem with that was that the replacement was not as consistently accurate. As some others have already said, it would have POI shifts, but I knew from my first one that the gun had the potential so I ended up fixing it with a good barrel band near the receiver.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Origin to someone new to PCPs. Just keep in mind that it is an entry level gun that you will likely want to upgrade from later.

James,
You're correct, air gun technology has changed in the last ten years. Bolt action, dovetail rails and unregulated, long, heavy guns have MOSTLY given way to side-levers, picatinny rails and regulated, shorter, lighter versions. I've also noticed metal magazines have gained ground against plastic ones. Keeping this in mind, as you do your research, might prove helpful. WM

Anyone looking for a Benjamin Akela bullpup at a good price? Benjamin is offering 40% off on this model for a few more days. Code = "BFAKELA"

Normal price in .22 = $632
Discounted price = $379.20 (for a few more days)

I had a less than great experience with my Arrow. Pellets are sort of a pain to get into the clip, if they have grooved skirts, even worse. If not fully inserted all the way in, it will damage the clip, the cocking will require much more effort, the clip will become stuck inside, and clip o-rings will tear. It's a nightmare. I returned it after 2 weeks.
