Umarex Notos vs BRK Atomic XR

Hello All,
Posting this question as I am contemplating the buy of a second pcp riffle to keep company to my Ghost 22 HP.
Was thinking of waiting for a couple of months to get the carbine version of the ghost which would shoot about 30 fpe or perhaps get me a Ranger Xr, atomic xr or even save $ and get me a Notos.
And here comes the question. What makes the atomic xr ( or Ranger) that much more expensive? They both shoot around 20 fpe, they both have the same amount of shots. Is the atomic xr that much more accurate? What am I missing?

Fit, finish, materials used all contribute to a more expensive pcp. The notes has a lot of plastic on it, and a Chinese barrel my guess. The brk options will be mostly aluminum, walther barrels, and the polymer that is on them is the higher quality type. Handle them both and you will understand.
Going from your ghost to a notos will be a noticeable difference.

@Elgreco, if you like the build quality of your Ghost. Then there is zero comparison between the Atomic and Notos as far as build quality and robustness… But I’m bias as I love, through useage, my Atomic and have a second on the way. Yes the Notos and other mini carbines have their place. But the Atomic and Ranger are on another level…

If all you need is an accurate airgun that you can beat around in the field while hunting small game, the Notos is a lot of gun for not much cash! You can probably buy 4 Notos for the price of one Atomic or Ranger! But, if you are after the high end amenities, go for it! I will say that at 40 yards,, my Notos is as accurate as my FX Crown! But, if I drop the Notos in a mud puddle or back oxer it with the truck, I won't be near as devastated as if I did that to my Crown! :D

Fit and finish on the Notos I own is comparable to the Brocock Concept Lite and Brocock Commander I owned. Conparing and contrasting the Concept Lite which is a fair parent platform to the Atomic against the Notos and the trigger on the Atomic is far superior.

I own and have owned a Brocock Commander, Brocock Concept Lite, Gamo Urban, Daystate Pulsar, Daystate Renegade, and Notos. If I were starting this hobby all over again I would get the Notos alone. The fit and finish are well above the price range.

That said, I do not think you could go wrong with the Atomic either. It has a better trigger than the Notos but at a higher price point.

Whatever you purchase I do not think you could go wrong.

The barrel lottery. That is what bothers me the most.
The Notos is basically a PP750 from China. A proven platform. But still from China.

I would have bought one, but I opted for a Prod instead because of parts commonality with my 1720 and 1701. Otherwise I would likely have taken a chance.

In hindsight I could have spent the money on an Atomic instead of three Crosmans. But when one has the bug…..

You left out… better real Lothar Walter barrel, magazine, reg, slingshot hammer, Huma reg, etc,🤓 In the field robustness, simply no contest.

Better barrel - Probably so but if I hit where I aim, I am happy :)

Better regulator, hammer, etc - Perhaps but my Notos standard deviation and spread is actually very very good.

Better magazines - Notos are $20 a magazine and they are metal with a magnet. I do like my Daystate new mags better though but they are $90/mag.

Robustness — hard to say, other than, carbines rock regardless!

Better trigger? No way, the Notos trigger is a stuff and heavy frozen turd.

This is kind of like comparing a Porsche to a Ford. Yes... the notos is the Ford lol.

A Ford isn’t always a bad thing ……

Dont have the atomic, but have the 750, if you are very particular about at the trigger, go for atomic, if you just want to have a partner for your rifle notos, accuracy depends on how far you want to hit, both gun might be close enough, i dont think atomic will shoot like the ghost, both will be close enough at the range were pistol is effective, notos trigger might not be close to the atomic but you can polish it, magazine wise night and day in price.

Adjusting the Notos trigger makes a huge difference! Filing down the point on that adjustment screw and applying a dab of grease makes it a lot smoother because it's no longer digging into the hammer sear as it moves! Replacing it with one of those ball bearing tipped grub screws would probably be even better! It will never be a competition trigger, but can be adjusted and tweaked to be a really decent field trigger!

Personally I think the atomic is over priced for what it is. But before anyone gets there feathers ruffled the quality is night and day comparing the two! I bought the Notos for a throw it on truck seat at the farm pesting gun! The consistency and accuracy are very good especially for a $260 carbine.
I've worked my trigger down to about 2 pounds and does what it does at 40 yards all day long. But if your looking for a back yard partner for your Ghost and can afford it it's a no brainer!

@ChuckHunter, only ruffled feathers are on the starlings smoked by my Atomic XR.😁 I use to think the same, overpriced, until I held and used one. If compared against the higher powered PCPs in its price range? Maybe so, specs wise. But in real everyday useage it outshines many of those bigger, badder guns.

@LMNOP, good points. But past 40 or 50 and up to 65 yards I doubt the Notos could keep up, accuracy wise with the Atomic XR.
