Tuning Umarex Notos has arrived.

Man it woops the Prods but , power wise. But its surprising what you can do with around 12-13 fpe.

Nothing wrong with the PRod but having a regulator is so nice. Look at the Std Dev and spread with my Notos which is entirely stock out of the box.

Have you tried a 30-40 shot string or does it fall off the reg ?

A nice sunny day in the ATL so was able to do some testing with the Apolo Dome 16 gn pellets. The Notos shoots them at 746 fps, Strelok Pro says that is 19.8 ft lbs of muzzle energy. Accuracy is just as good as the Crosman Domes, maybe slightly better. (more testing needed) Temperature has now warmed up into the low 60's and Notos velocity has moved up just a bit to low 770 fps with Crosman Domes. Trigger is beginning to break in more and feels so much better that the out of the box monster.

The Notos continues to impress me, I feel sure it will be a great lightweight woods walker as well as my now favorite yard gun!

Moderator is definitely not removable, its held on by two c clips that are molded into the plastic.
Can obviously be cut off but you will need access to a 3D printer to make some parts.
First off,the barrel is not threaded on either end, held by a grub screw on top of the block just underneath the screw to remove pic rail.
After removal, the whole barrel assembly should just slide off.
The barrel shroud is a slip on fit only and was held on by the Moderator.
Just need to hack off the Moderator if desired and find or make a slip on version. View attachment 325772View attachment 325773View attachment 325774

I will be getting my Notos tomorrow and having done some work with embedded C clips in the past, I think I may have an idea that will allow us to remove the moderator and if that goes well, I will share my findings and the method I used.

I'm not a fan of 'fixed' mods, I like to be able to make the decision about silence myself so I will definately be voiding my warranty first thing.

Also: What purpose does that little 'bag rider' have? I think I'll cut that off too!

I didn’t like the appearance of the thumb-hole-ish grip at first but after carrying it around a little it actually makes a nice handhold that I sometimes find myself using if I’m walking around in the woods. I too was going to cut mine off but I’ve since decided it’s not too bad for me or the kids.

Congratulations. You are gonna love it !

I know but I am so fearful when it comes to turning a hobby into a job :(. OCD will flare up and next thing you know I am spending more time weighing pellets, lubricating them, and scoping my bore sassing UMX about microscopic imperfections than shooting. Hehehe :)

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!!

That shot string is out of the box and it was OK when the PROD camne on the market around 2010.

If you want to spend a day tuning (research and plenty of shot strings over the chrony) and overfill to 3200 PSI you can get to (with CPHP 14.3 grains):
4 magazines (32 shots) at 680-715 FPS (14-16 FPE)
2 magazines (16 shots) at 750-790 FPS (18-20 FPE)

To get between tunes I need a chrony and the 1/8" hex key to adjust the hammer stroke length.
And it takes about 10 minutes to switch the tunes, and there are plenty of other tunes in between.

You also get 5-8 shots before and after that shot string if you are willing to get a higher FPS spread.

I have a PROD and have spent almost an entire day (20+ hours) tuning it.

I have a Notos and spent an hour tuning it (including cutting a hammer spring), only because I wanted higher efficiency (with slightly lower velocity).
Now with a weaker hammer spring I can get a range of 640-740 FPS with CPHP by just turning the hammer spring screw.
With the original hammer spring I was getting 760-770 FPS with CPHP.
Now I get at least 50 shots (7+ magazines) around 700 FPS.
The original spring was way too heavy and inefficient.

I thought that my China hand pump had blown an o-ring, but turns out that the handle had just worked lose, easy to fix. Decided to pump the Notos from 2000 psi back to 3500 psi. Took less effort than I thought it would, the Notos is hand pump friendly for sure.

My Yong Heng compressor does the same job in less than 30 seconds and hardly gets warm.

The shot string is from checking if the HS was maxed and the bolt throw. I have an early model and those numbers are pretty much maximum. Ive never had a problem pesting at 12 to 13 fpe but its usually within 30 yards. It fits well in my pcp lineup. One is 13 fpe , one is 23, and 34 and 45 fpe.

Im open to any tips in case im missing something . Backing off the hammer spring or shortening the throw from max I loose velocity . Definitely not a factory tune unless it was maxed from the start. I've changed it many times. Some of the off number are from adjustments. 14.3g at 636 fps is 12.85 fpe . I could easily get a better string if I'm only needing or picking 20 shots . And I need to shoot another string without making adjustments.

As a Prod owner I still think the Notos is a nice carbine. I would have liked to see the shroud threaded instead of a set screw. It seems like a capable squirrel getter and the light handy one usually gets grabbed first. I might end up with one some day.

Basically my thoughts as well. Out of the box, the Notos is better. But I've been able to modify my two Prods into something that the Notos can't be, simply due to the aftermarket parts support. But it's taken like $800 into each gun to get there, so there's that...
