I had to change the regulator because the threads shredded during maintenance. Got a new reg set at 2200psi. Fps is all over the place unless my tank read below 2000psi.

Just added a new (2200psi) $25 reg to my Umarex Gauntlet .25, (First Generation) along with a $40 larger bottle, as part of an upgrade program that's been around a few years. The jump from 1900psi to 2200psi resulted in higher speeds but POI was only two clicks right of original. Haven't chrono'd FPS but noise hitting target backstop and accuracy suggests consistency. Maybe you should try another regulator. WM

I appreciate the feedback. I tried shimming the regulator this time but being stuck with a hand pump for now the experiments to tune this gun are very physically taxing.

Not a large group of Gauntlet .25 owners around, but many PCP proficient members. Would help if you explained the situation in more detail. Generation 1 or 2? What mods have you done? Threads shredded during maintenance, please elaborate. I doubt anyone will be able to help without a clearer picture of exactly what has happened. WM

The first step with a regulated PCP is to adjust the hammer spring tension to be in harmony with the regulator. Gradually increase the hammer spring tension until the velocity no longer increases, then back it off until the velocity is about 95-97% of the maximum. That step will put the gun at a state of tune favorable to a stable velocity.

So I tried the haj mod to the regulator on the original. It's a gen 1. After I charge it up the gun performed worse shooting at around 600fps. I went to take the shims in the regulator out and the threads of the bonnet turned to dust. The tank was free or pressure. I'm finding now with the new regulator without mods is only giving me 840fps after the tank pressure drops below 2000psi.

Correct, if wrong, you had a normal functioning Gauntlet .25, free of any owner modifications, and decided to upgrade by replacing 13cu bottle with a 38L and the OEM 1900psi regulator with an aftermarket 2200psi. My advice would be to address the bad threads, first. If, by bonnet threads, you're referring to the block the regulator threads into, professional repairs may be required. The 38L tank costs $40 and a new regulator, $26, if the threads on either of those have "turned to dust" I'd just replace. I also priced the Hajimoto 2200psi regulator, around $100, but decided to get one on eBay for $26, the main difference being the gauge and fill port are opposite each other, as the OEM, on the Hajimoto, while a 90-degree angle on the other. The $26 regulator works, despite this, since the fill port points as normal and the gauge faces the shroud, easily visible thru the Gauntlet front bottle cover. WM
