Ultra compact & powerful PCPs

What’s your most compact and powerful PCP(s). Mine is a hot rodded 2240. Weighing in at 2 1/2 lbs. (including scope) with an OAL of 12”, barrel 7.5”.

It’s only a 2 shot gun putting out 32 fpe for the first shot then 24 fpe for the second. Considering the air tube has the same volume of air as a mouses lungs I’m happy with it. I have plenty of guns with high shot count. This build was about pushing a 2240 to its limit without adding a longer barrel. The Cothran valve does a fine job making it a powerhouse.

1322 with 7.6" barrel, I measured 27fpe, but it has a 165cc air cylinder, and will produce a very large number of shots with tons of punch. I tuned it to ~550fps currently with 16gr pellets for well past 100 shots. It has an integrated moderator, so it is a bit longer than your 2240

Other one is my .25 caliber pp800 with ~7 shots from 28-24fpe. I detuned it a hair from 30fpe because I was getting a ton of hammer bounce

I love how simple, clean, and compact yours is, though. I will get around to building one very similar at some point. Care to share any details on the hammer/valve setup?

That's an awesome build.

Wow that's sweet dude. Overkill is under rated. I love it when my guns slam pellets at breakneck speed. I'm not always a power junkie but big power always puts a smile on my face. I have a 1322 that I built up with power valves and flat top pistons, longer barrel etc. I think I get about 20 fpe on it.

It is definitely overkill for this small barrel lol. The pellets aren’t going that fast though. 25.39 gr @ 750 fps.
The power is cool but what’s REALLY sweet about this build is the Cothran valve doesn’t need a heavy spring to make high power. The cocking is super light and smooth. Makes the trigger pull real smooth as well

The 13XX is a fun, easy gun to mod. Love the accuracy from that crosman barrel too

An Evanix AR6 pistol. Haven't shot much it is way too loud. Tamed it with a home brewed hammer-valve rubber interference stopper using a piece of rubber slipper. Much cruder design than the B-Staley o-ring mod but works. Was a long time ago...

😂 that’s some macguyver style home brewing. The AR6 is a beast. What’s the max you’ve cranked it up?

Awesome pistols! Especially the 2240 build the tube adapter looks clean😎

I’m running the Cothran valve with b Staley mod(one o-ring on face of valve). Hammer is Cothran adjustable hammer. Screw in center of hammer is backed out to strike valve stem an 1/8” less.

Well I'm psyched about my latest project so here I am bringing it up again. Talon p with 18" barrel and Doug Noble valve hitting 95-100 fpe at 1 or two on the power wheel. Is it compact? Not compared to those pistols but look at it next to my Gamo. Getting over 100 fpe out of something that size... compact for the power maybe? I'm just looking for an excuse to show it off. Shooting 24 and 30 grain pellets at supersonic speeds is maybe pointless but still pretty cool. My inner 10 year old is psyched beyond words.

Nice carbine👍 Those inline valves can put out some insane energy especially the noble-ized ones.

Yeah, there's that. Guns, shooting, fireworks, you name it.... my inner 10-year old can't get enough of it!

Warning, here comes today's sexist remark: This must be a general difference between female shooters and male shooters. For the latter guns just flip a switch and reduce them to 10-year olds.... The former are usually above that.

(Well, there is Fiona from Burn Notice, Michael Westen's girlfriend. She had a 10-year old girl in her when she got C4 in her hands.... 🤣.)

PS: MrP, congrats on your gun. That's quite a piece! And of course you're right -- it's not just total size, but size in relation to muzzle energy.

Thanks jungleshooter. Learning about this hobby has been a great diversion. Putting that kind together was kind of a fun challenge for me. I have no literal need for anything quite like that but it is really cool nonetheless.

Here are two other things that are questionably compact. One is a modified PP 700 with a long .177 barrel and homemade LDC. The other is just the power plant of a .25 Talon p put into a talon ss frame (replacing a .177 barrel and valve) so it is pretty much a shrouded and silenced TalonP. These are both powerful for their size as well. The pp700 was 14 fpe with the old .177 barrel, this is A good bit longer. I have not chronographed it yet but must be shooting 16 fpe I'd guess.

Talon p is 46-55 fpe As everyone probably knows not much to say about that. This combination is really sweet to shoot - just a breeze to cock, really powerful, deceptively quiet, perfect balance and heft for me. There is an Air Force model that's literally this - an escape SS maybe. Sweet gun

stubby ldc on there is just for fun - Temporary while printing one that fits better. .

Odoyle -

It's really not that hard to do.

Just figure out where you want the end of the barrel to be, take a coupla measurements, cut that amount of material from the shroud, face the cut ends, weld it back together. I did have to remove about .03" from each baffle and shorten the spring a bit to get "all" of the baffles back into the shroud.

I also removed the adjustable butt pad goodies. The non-adjustable location is fine for me. Plus my cat chewed on the lower corner of the butt pad, don't know if that counts for anything..!

One more thing, since the sound from the factory baffling is fine, and I have no plans to install a "long" silencer, so, I also removed the threads from the shroud cap / silencer adapter.

Yea...much better.

Mike

P.s. - Forgot. After touching up the weld, I painted the shroud with truck bed paint. Actually, the same stuff that's on my Lelya stock. Unless you REALLY do an inspection type look at it, it looks good.

you kind of built another escape here, the escape UL (the model i recently purchased, and you had given some advice on in another thread). the only difference would be the escape has the condorss barrel, 18" but 12mm thickness to save weight.

i had been searching for the perfect combo of size vs. power and the escapeul was what i settled on. i had gone the bullpup route previously, but even when short, i found them harder to pack up / just felt too bulky.

To me, the other .25 Escape (with the 12" barrel, not pictured) that I made is just ideal. Reasonably quiet, more powerful than you'd expect given the noise, nice and compact and even with a small bottle I'm getting a decent shot count. It is a pleasure to shoot. Very smooth and easy operation.

The one pictured here with the heavy barrel is great for power but very much less smooth due to the heavy spring and high power. Reminds me a little bit of firing a magnum springer - significant force needed to cock and audible mechanical noise and tank "ping" on firing, noticeable recoil due to high fpe. Quite fun in its own way but the opposite of smooth and slick.

Thanks! The crosman is a 1322, it has a smaller lower tube than a 2240, but I also have a hammer in it as you described the Cothran hammer to be... I also have a hole in the back of the cap that I can adjust the striker thru if need be. Makes tuning and power adjustment very user friendly.

I will have to see about getting my hands on one of those valves for my future 2240. I love how simply they can be built and converted if done correctly. 😎

That talon HAS to sound wicked.

I'll admit, I like pulling my shroud off my .22 FX crown, with the 380mm barrel installed, running the 65fpe tune for my 700mm barrel. Some bark! and really hard pellets on galvanized steel make little kinetic to thermal flashes
