Ultimate AirForce Talon SS setup?

I used to have an Air Force Talon SS and I regretfully sold it. Now I'd like to re-acquire a nice setup with a couple barrel/valve options.

I mainly shoot paper so accuracy, range, and air-efficiency are my primary drivers. I'm trying to decide between .177/.22, short/long/heavy barrels.

What is the most accurate setup? .22 with 24" heavy barrel?

What is the most efficient setup? .177 short barrel?

Any valves or trigger mods recommended?

.257... Long barrel. If your trying to have a accurate rifle with long range capabilities... that's what I would do.

Long barrel is always more efficient at delivering a slug at speed in my limited experience.

Regardless... I don't think any air force gun is the poster child of efficiency. But I do want a Noble built .257 for long range fun.. and a .457 for hunting.

I think I'm holding out for air force to release a gun with a proper stock/chassis.

As noted the AF guns are not known for efficiency. However if you are looking for what I would consider as the best compromise, and accuracy is important, I would run a .22 24 inch barrel. Get a regulator from Altaros and set it around 22-24fpe. Lots of info on trigger mods out there for these guns.

22 will be more efficient than .177 as a rule. Seems counter productive but imagine blowing a spit wad out of a straw... now try to blow a spit wad out of a coffee stirrer.

I know a regulated .177 talon ss or equivalent will have an absurd shot count. I borrowed one from a friend for a weekend and I have no idea how many shots I got off a tank but it was too many to count casually. Shooting in the mid-800’s as set up by the owner. It was quiet enough that I thought it had jammed the first time I shot it.

I saw a YouTube video today with a Talon SS and the guy had put a Ninja 45/4500 tank on it behind a regulator. Looked like a sweet set up, and it was as quiet as a church mouse considering he was running .22 16gr pellets at 850. The space between the aftermarket reg and the valve acted as a plenum and my thought, (being a machinist) is to make use of that space with my own external plenum ideas.

Please report back if you build something cool 😎

This is a stock I designed for my Talon PC. Cut this prototype out of pine to check fit and see how it shouldered and fit it the hands. I hope to get back to it with some time off coming up over the holiday.

I've always kinda wanted an AirForce set up for slug shooting, but they have been left wayyy in the dust in airgun innovation and certainly value per dollar at this point.

I think Airforce still have their place. Yes they are single shots, and yes they are not regulated, but they are power houses.

Here is the stock in real life from the CAD model and pine prototype I posted above. It's a pretty cool package.

The Air Force platform is ten years behind in innovation.
