Air Arms TX200 Vortek kit install

Spent about an hour this morning installing a Vortek kit and seal in my 177 TX200. Had a bad seal with crony numbers with 100 fps spread. What a delightfully easy rifle to work on! The kit seems to be working excellent. Literally after ten break in shots I shot 2 really good 25 yard 5 hot groups. The first under a nickel. The second group 4 were a ragged hole.

I shot my TX200 MKIII .22 cal this week using my Caldwell chronograph. My rifle has the Vortek PG4 SHO kit in it. The chronograph reads between 614 and 634 with an average of 625. Orv.

Nice writeup. This is why Im tempted to get a TX200 as my first springer.

At our FT match today I was talking about springers and trying to decide if I should get one or not and which one. They said that at one of the matches, Tyler Patner opened a refurb TX200 mounted a scope, then after sighting it in shot a high 50's for the course. It spoke volumes both about his skills and the capabilities of the rifle.

Back checked my order after crony this morning. h&n FTT at 766 fps average. Extreme spread was 5 fps. 11.26 foot pounds.

Nothing wrong with 11.2 FPE. The diiference between 11 and 15 fpe in drop within 50 yards is not hard to overcome. The difference in shot cycle and accuracy is likely much more substantial. I'll bet it is sweet shooting as it is now. We tend to get WAY to focused on power.

I would rather have a 12fpe TX200. Thats what my TX is set up at for good reason. In fact I don’t want any piston rifle over 12fpe. They just work better. I just want a good nice shooting rifle and 12fpe in springers (or less) is that sweet spot. Anything beyond that is what PCP rifles are for.
