Turret Tape or Holdover?

Don't make it any harder on yourself than it needs to be. Use only the 13.4's.

Use FFP scopes so holdovers and holdoffs will be the same on any magnification. Sight in at 30Y so you are using holdovers only. Practice both dialing and holds. I like doing both, it's fun to be proficient with either. Each has benefits depending on the situation. It's not hard to memorize your dope, I have most of it memorized with my favorite rifle to 55Y. From 25Y to 38Y is within 1 click so that's easy.

For the most part I too use Athlon scopes. It's hard to beat the Midas TAC, but I've also had good luck with the Argos BTR's. I wish the Argos line had the same reticle as in the Talos BTR and the APLR2 reticle in the Ares line!

For me, 13.4s are the most accurate in .177 for sure. However, I have had very heavy pesting opportunities at about 20 yards in the direction of my neighbor's property. This is where the Hades come in. I position myself so that trees are the backdrop, but had some pass throughs with the 13.4s and they did not go straight through, but off at an angle. The Hades 10.34 have not passed through and have proven safe for those shots.

I use FFP scopes exclusively for the reason you stated, and sight in at 50y with no problems holding under when needed. I shoot 5 guns at different calibers so memorizing doesn't work for me, hence the blue tape data.

There's less to think about when you only need to holdover. It's just getting used to something different than what you used to do.

I've got lots of rifles but my go-to is the one I've got partially memorized. I don't have a tape on any of them but that's me.

I'm like some of these other guys, I just want to use one type of ammo per gun so...

It depends on how much preparation you are willing to do. I used Holdover the first couple of years until I found the Scope Werks turrets. The way I set my turret up is marked in yardage. So I laser the target, turn to the measured yardage and pull the trigger. Just as fast as holdover and no real thought involved, no mistakes with “busy” reticles, no guessing if I’m holding the right marked windage, since I’m always on the center crosshairs which are marked MIL or MOA. It also doesn’t matter if your scope is MIL or MOA since you’re dialing the yardage. Photo below is .22 EDGun R3 Long NSA 20.2 slug @985 FPS after I had just schwacked a ground squirrel at 176 yards. You can see the turret on 176 if you look close. And I clicked - hold your breath - a Chinese made scope! Say it isn’t so! ;) I’ve had nothing but success clicking my Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 Scope. Highly recommended.

I love that idea. Where did you get that tape? Or is it somehow self-made?
