Turning down .25 cal to minimize FPE

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I tried loading a pellet backwards, but the Wildcat didn’t like that. It felt like I really had to jam it in there. I think I’ll consider preordering an Avenger in .177 and use that.

A .177 pellet at 800fps (12fpe) will penetrate just as much as a .25 at the same speed, you would do less damage with 12fpe .22 at 570fps. Do not be put off by the slow speed and loopy trajectory of a 12fpe .22, mine is capable of small 1.5moa groups at 100yards.

I have a BSA ultra SE that shoots 26 grain at 460fps and accuracy is great! Being such heavy pellets I have not issues with stacking pellets at 25 yards even with wind. At that speed the energy dump on critters is shockingly awesome, it’s like smacking them with a bowling ball!

that said I switched to .177 caliber for back yard target practice and sparrow killing because it’s even quieter and less collateral if an shot went way off. And also 1 cent a shot really bearings the cost of backyard shooting down compared to 6 cents. Pellet at best with .25 pellets. Get yourself a cheap but accurate .177 airgun and be happy.

Update: Got it tuned down to 480fps. A 24.39gr jsb king pellet doesn’t go through a standard cedar fence plank at 10yds. Now I’ve gotta watch out for ricochets cause they bounce off. It’s still enough energy to kill a rat, though.

I kept the regulator at 140 and only adjusted the hammer spring. 5 turns in from 900fps at power level 7 gets me to 480fps on power level 1. I can reliably go back and forth from high power to low power.

There ya go, yeah that speed with those pellets will smash rats.
