Tune or not Tune

Okay, once again I am coming to the experienced shooters. I have adjusted my impact in every possible configuration I know. I can make it dot I's @ 50 yds. the next day it won't shoot the same. sometimes I'm shooting 100 to 150 yds and hitting in a 3 inch circle. (pellet lid) then all of a sudden. off to the farm!!!!

So. is it an option to have this gun professionally tuned, Will that fix the accuracy and stability of accuracy "permanently"?

I'd like any constructive advice you can give. Experience with same problem and your solution.

If tuning is the answer, I'd appreciate names and contact info on your TRUSTED and PREFERERRED Tuner. What can I expect to pay for this service and what is the turn around in you experience.
Thanks.;

Before tuning, do you have any idea why the inconsistency? What changes from day to day?

have you used a chrony to test the speed on days it's hitting and days it's not? If it's inconsistent and you didn't change anything a tune may not help any. that might be more of a service than a tune.

Have you checked the barrel and cleaned thoroughly? is there something loose like the screws on the pellet probe or the barrel screw?

On days when it's off the farm, is it up, down, left, right. Up or down could be regulator. Side to side would probably be something else.

(No I don't own an Impact though I wish I did, but these seem like appropriate steps)

Hope the questions help.

"JoeWayneRhea"Ive never owned a FX rifle , but Ernest Rowe is the man !!!! One of the classiest guys in the sport ,and a absolute wizard at tuning PCP rifles .Last gun I sent to him was.about a 3-4 week turn around and best I remember price was like 100$ or something like that . You cannot go wrong with him !!!!!!!!!!!!!
No BS he is the man !!!!/
+1 if I wanted a pro tuned FX Ernest would be the man.

Keyman . I have a fx impact mine was doing the same thing consistent then it would group and spray some where else . I use to think I was getting the barrel clean, then I bought a fiber cleaning rod that hooked to my 1/2" drill so I could turn it some rpm's . And used bore compounds and lead attracting treated cloths . Would hook this to a nylon brush to grip the cleaning clothes. Then ran it in and out . The barrel I thought was clean just kept getting more and more led out. This took some time . It also polishes the barrel . Some smooth twist barrels were they press the twist into the last two inches or so , Are tighter than they should be by so many thousands, and they led up quick . These barrels have micro burrs in the lands and grooves. If you do it right It will be very noticeably different . Turn into a laser beam accurate . If you don't want to mess with it , let ernest rowe polish your barrel. The tuning is less effective than the barrel polishing . Take all of your shroud and ldc off, and look with a bright light and magnifying glass you will see were the lead collects more on the twist groves at the end . After polishing this will not happen the same .

Good info I'll work on that in the next few days I've got some heavy 33 coming in tomorrow I'm going to run a full crony on them in on my 25 or whatever they are I'll work on scrubbing that Barrel up I think that's a good possibility she will shoot just perfectly sometimes and that's what yours is doing that sounds like what mine is doing

If you do it yourself . Try and get a 25 nylon brush rap the de leading compound cloth around it and you will want some resistance to where the drill has to torque against it but not get stuck. In other words a really snug fit but not to stug. This way you're actually trying to take a 50,000 off at a time . I did this some what slowly for a couple of hours . I have ran 2 tins through and only a couple of flyer's now . less than dime size groups at 40 yards. It use to led up and start spying then poi regroup around 100 shots . let us know .

Like this and some regular cloth patches
use this. https://www.amazon.com/Kleenbore-Gun-Care-Lead-Cloth/dp/B002IEIDG4
and some of this to put the final clean after you think you have taken some burrs out and a little metal.
https://www.amazon.com/Ballistol-Multi-Purpose-Lubricant-Non-Aerosol-Trigger/dp/B001O2L80E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1508973823&sr=8-3&keywords=ballistol+oil
this will lube the barrel , then use a dry patch to get it out , not all the lube will come out after 3or4 dry patches even though it looks like it. very little lube left . and wash and dry your pellets . this will help all your air rifles.

Yes I look down the barrel and just like HVACK said it just dirtier than dog the grooves are almost full you can barely tell they're there and I have clean this gun till no lead comes out amazing so I have been cleaning and cleaning cleaning and running my little bottle brush around its nylon of course and it is coming pretty cleaned mirror clean I will see

Is it just me, or is it too much to expect that for a near $2000 gun, it would be a better fit and finish than that. I mean, why don't they just come with the barrel treated properly? What would that cost them in production? Just make it right in the first place. sheesh...

ok
soapbox mode : Off

One thing I do know is that the FX ships with some kind of protective gunk in the barrel to keep it from rusting during the shipping. My Crown is coming and I don't think I am even going to put the scope on or shoot it at all. First thing is remove the barrel and clean the crap out of it.

OMG, Once again, you guys have come to the rescue!
I had checked barrel and probe tightness and alignment. After you own an Impact a while you catch on to these things. Thanks anyway, I learned it from all of you.
hvack was right on the money. I posted last night about how dirty the barrel was and really went to work cleaning it. like a mirror.
First light this morning. Using power 1,2,3,4,5,&max. 5 shots ea. pellet on pellet or touching @50yds. Annie didn't shoot that well when brand new. She came set on max
Of course there could be some operator error involved. %)

I will do some extensive Chrony in the next day or 2. Once I zeroed scope 1&2 hit bull every time , last time I chronied they shot 835 & 870. she gets pretty hot after that.
however NO FLIERS! POI raised 1" between power levels. I'm washing and sorting pellets and after shooting a couple of tins I'll be able to confirm results.

I'm not pronouncing Annie cured but I have moved her from ICU to recovery. She can now receive family and friends.

Thanks to all of you.SERIOUSLY YOUR THE BEST!
