Truoil vs Wipe on poly

High guys I would just like to ask anyone that has compared these 2 products. I'm trying to find out which is better to use i'e in finish, hardness and durability along with how hard is it too use and which is the easiest. Has truoil is a 7 day project to complete fully i'e by the guideline's what is the time on wipe on poly. If anyone can answer this question which is the better finish, which is more durable, and which is easier to use, please leave your comments below thankyou

I have also just finished one rifle stock in truoil which is my Artemis M16A it had a beach stock which I stained walnut then truoiled it then stock sheen conditioned it then waxed it here was the finishing stock.

Thx for your comment has you know truoil is a great finish but your saying if I'm following you correctly, that wipe on poly is a lot more durable and a harder finish than truoil. So that bit covered could you tell me how wipe on poly goes on compared to truoil is it easier and quicker drying times than truoil. Has truoil after adding your last coat have to leave to cure up to 7 days. What is the curing times of wipe on poly let me know in the comments and thx for the comment.

Wipe on poly is about the easiest finish to apply I've ever used. Wipe it on thin and it is ready for another coat pretty fast. You may need to give a light sanding or steel wool rub between coats to knock off any raised grain or uneven finish. I have put a couple coats on in one day, if in a good climate controlled room you may be able to do three coats, but I have never been in that much of a hurry to do a stock. The first stock I refinished I rushed it and of course had to strip it again to do it right. On the final coat I let it sit maybe two days before I put the gun back together, though it will be dry to the touch a few hours after applying the final coat. I just let it sit longer so I do not mess the job up I worked so hard to make look purty. Hope this helps some, good luck, take your time!

boogermeister is correct about how fast poly dries and how easy it is to add extra coats but what you need to consider is the wood breathes and depending on your climate it may add or lose moisture. The true oil is the method that enhances the wood long term and provides it the oil and breathing ability it needs. Time ( long time) cracks the plastic but the oil finish gets richer over (long) time. No right or wrong just personal choices. I use both finishes but have found the oil always ends up more pleasing to the touch and we all want to touch a pretty piece of wood.

Thx for the reply guys I have watched Joe on YouTube the cherry red stock he does and the other stock he does comparing wipe on poly and truoil. I just wanted to hear from guys with experience with both. Truoil finish is like factory high grade stocks or you can buff them to a high gloss worthy off a show rifke. Its just the curing time of the last coat 7 days, I had heard of wipe on poly on how quick it drys between coats and how much more durable it was against truoil. Like you said guys it mainly goes on preference I am still on the fence on doing my second stock with it or not but thx all for your comments

I prefer wipe on Poly, years ago I built a muzzle loader and used Tru oil, the finish was high gloss and as slick as glass but seemed to yellow after a few years, I've also used Tung oil on a Remington Model 48 stock and fore end, it came out nice. The last stock I did was earlier this summer for a FWB 300S and used Min Wax Wipe On Poly in satin and really like the way it turned out. After the first couple coats I let it dry for 24 hours before recoating, but I was in no hurry as I didn't have a rifle for it yet.

Just done my noblesse with the truoil and white spirit mix 1 to 1 its hand dry in 20 mins so got 10 coats on in the matter of a few hours. Then added one full truoil coat and left to dry for 24hrs then added stock sheen conditioner. I noticed when adding the stock sheen conditioner I maybe should of left it to cure first but its still turned out quite alright.
