True mil dot

Get benched, use a yard stick or fine ruler at all distances you need to know on preferred magnification.

Not every scope is true at 10x but once you know where it is true at 100 yards you can divide distances.

They also have mil-quad finer hash marks or very defined 0.1 mil outlined hollow diamonds as mil markings that don’t obscure your POA.

For YEARS in AAFTA Field target ( Hunter Class ) we were limited to 12X

Our way of making sure we were at 12x and to validate our DOPE done on chairgun, the test was 100 FEET and a ruler / yard stick.

At a true 12X you calibrated your view ( Adjusting mag +/- ) of the ruler at the 100 feet to view as ONE INCH PER MIL-DOT.

Just a quick FYI ....
