trouble with diy IR camera

Hi all,

I'm setting up a night vision IR camera for my rifle.

I picked up a backup camera, 16mm lens, screen and IR flashlight

flashlight https://www.ebay.com/itm/233826587836
backup camera https://www.ebay.com/itm/363682714020
16mm lens https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09Z6JSDQ9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
screen https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0746CM3G7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I 3d printed a tube and set everything up.

I get power to the camera but the screen either shows white when the flashlight is on or static darkness when the flashlight is off.

any ideas where I went wrong?

Thanks in advance.

My best guess is that the camera and lens assembly is not focused. Did you build this rig from someone's DIY-night-vision project video or tutorial?

No. I just read a few tutorials and they didn't specify much. I'm guessing the adjustment is how far in or out the lens will go. The original was all the way in so I did the same for this one.

@Smitty911 is the ATN 4-16 a scope? all I can find is binoculars.

Just to clarify, I'm putting this on a scope. guess I didn't mention that on the original post.

Thanks for the info.

quick update. I installed the old lens and got it to focus. I'm guessing the old one is bad? I put the 16mm in and still does not adjust. I'm guessing the 16mm is bad?
[edit]
It's doubtful that the 16mm lens is bad. I followed your links to the products to see what you have. If you install the 16mm lens on the camera, without trying any sort of attaching it to your riflescope, can you get a clear image?

Perhaps you need a longer (or shorter) tube between the lens and the camera body. These cameras and lenses are not really built to be reconfigured by the consumer. I watched a few YouTube videos and read a couple of articles on the topic of D.I.Y. night-vision scopes a few years ago, but I never really tried it myself. But I used to do some security CCTV installation work a long time ago. Sometimes, you might need more distance between the lens and the image sensor, or less distance between the lens and the sensor. Sometimes you might have to add an additional spacer between the lens and the image sensor. When you put a camera (with it's own lens) behind a scope eyepiece (lens), it may have to be further away than you think (eye-relief distance). Besides lens focal length (16mm) you must also consider f-stop (f4, f5.6, etc).

That's all I have. I'm no expert, and I have nothing more to offer. I wish you the best in your endeavor. Good Luck.
