Trouble sighting in my FX Dreamline Classic

I have a FX Dreamline Classic in 30 cal.with a BSA down range 6X24X 50 scope on it. It is dead on at 30 yards 5 shot in a 1" dead center. When I try to sight it in for 50 yards it is all over the place from 6 " high/low to way left and right. I am shooting JSB match EXACT 44.75 grain pellets. and using a lead sled for a rest. I have made sure that the gun is fully charged. Any one have any ideas why it is doing this

Well, I have 25 and 51 yard ranges set up in my back yard, and being fairly new to air rifle shooting, I am finding that it is more than doubly difficult to keep groups small at double the distance. Don't know your experience or what you may have shot before, but any issues with your shooting technique get magnified very quickly when shooting longer distances.

Also, at what speed are you shooting the 44.75's? It could also be that they are flying too fast and destabilizing in flight. May not show up in the first 30 yards of flight, but can at farther distances. Are the holes in your 50 yard target clean, or do the pellets seem to be hitting the target kind of sideways (longer tear)? Have you maybe tried backing off the power wheel to the 177/22 setting to see what happens? Have you changed the reg pressure on the rifle from the factory setting, or installed a Power Plenum?

Do you have a different scope you could try, just in case there might be an issue with the BSA?

Your diopter adjustment could be off. That along with parallax adjustment could lead to difficulties at greater distances with inconsistent cheek weld and eye placement. Just a thought. My .25 DL Classic is lights out 1/4" @ 50yds with 33.95 JSB, yours should be as well.

Like L.Leon suggested, try another scope?

Scope and benchrest methodology. Also take a look at your slug/pellet quality, maybe try a different weight and brand. Do a sampling and see if the same issue occurs to make sure the harmonics are fine on the barrel and projectile. I don't have an FX, so if you find that this sampling has increased the overall accuracy you might try bedding or floating the rifle more (obviously with this model you can't free float it but maybe loosen or reposition a clamp slightly. Harmonics, ammo, and a lame scope can be a lot in itself. Luckily for you, there is a LOT of dreamers here.

It could be any one, or a combination of many things, as mentioned above. I would first shoot it over a chronograph, which will immediately indicate or exclude an extreme velocity variation. This could indicate a faulty regulator, valve, or dirty hammer/spring assembly. Check the scope by switching to a proven scope. I would next clean the barrel liner, making sure that liner, sleeve, shroud, moderator, etc. are all properly installed.

I generally shoot better groups using a front rest and a rear bag than when I use my lead sled. I think it is because there is a little spring action that is introduced into the sled’s frame when I hold and aim the rifle that releases when I pull the trigger (admittedly on some occasions without adequate follow through) resulting in a larger groups. I am talking more on the line of a half inch or so, not the 6 inches you are getting, so doubtful it is your entire problem, but maybe a worth a look.
